Wow...gone for a few days and my thread explodes....

Rules indicate counter will be blue dice as was pointed out to me (thanks :) ), so now let us let this thread sink into obscurity.

Lyraeus, you don't help matters in a rules thread when you make a bunch of posts about fluff and background - all of those are irrelevant and muddy the waters way more than help.

Ruleswise you're correct: Ship upgrade = gets counter 1, counter 1 says use blue dice. Done.

I stated the answer but people wanted a reason in fluff that fit. So I gave that as well.

I think that giving a fluff explanation just to try and get across completely clear rules is giving justification to the concept that the rules of a game are open to fluff interpretations.

We see it really often in this game in regards to the various dice. Starting with Openning Salvo and Paragon people have willingly disregarded the clearly written rules because they can't seperate the rules from what they see as the fluff justification for it.

So save yourself the headache of trying to rationalize 2+2 for people that clearly want the answer to be 3. Quote the rules, explain thier interaction, and if they want to disregard what is clearly written because of a possible fluff interpretation they made up in thier minds, one of FFG's unreliable articles, or "because the rules don't say I can't" then let them just look silly for it.

People have a habit of just plain making stuff up and creating fluff justifications for it.

Also, (for the person who commented about Rhymer before) the counter from the Quad Laser Turrets won't wreck your Rhymerball, as it says "when defending at distance 1" So if you are using Rhymer to bomb at medium range you are safe from the counter.

And the Tie Fighters and Interceptors next to Rhymer will also be safe by attacking ships beyond distance one as well. Hmm, perhaps this upgrade is not as good as previously thought.
