I believe Reinholt has the correct interpretation here. That's how I've been playing it.

I'd like to add just one further word on the "it's a replacement effect" argument. If Mon Mothma is indeed a replacement effect, you can still elect not to use her ability for long range attacks (yes, Reinholt did already cover this, I'm not saying anything different than what he said) in that way it's a replacement effect, but works like any upgrade's replacement effect in that it is optional.

Occam's Razor people. Learn it, love it.

Indeed. I'd never even considered the possibility of it not being a replacement effect, but (Occam's Razor or not) the wording just doesn't say that it is. Which makes Mon Mothma a CILF (Card I'd Like to FAQ).

True, and this wouldn't be a problem if someone at FFG had just put, "...it can instead/also cancel..."

Occam's Razor just leads us to the answer we got in the email, which is that she replaces the normal effect.

You are correct. It's always the choice of the player who's using the evade.

On the resurrection....I find it amusing reading these old posts to see how many people I do recognise and how many I don't.
