Can thief open Special (Magic/heavy) doors by Sneaky

By Sadamik, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Suddenly, i have not found any offical answer on this qusetion.

Thief have a special abbility - Sneaky: "You may exhaust this card to perform an open or close a door action without using an action". Can thief probably use it to open special doors??? (Perform an open door action and test something (strange/knowledge/agility))

Could u help me, please.

Doors which require a special action or an attribute test can only be opened by performing these special actions or attribute tests. "Sneaky" only works on regular doors / portcullis or overgrowth.

Correct. A special action to open a door is distinct from an "open/close door" action. Therefore, Sneaky can't do it. Sneaky only works for doors that could be opened with a standard open door action.

I think that if the rule is " to open that door you must make an open/close door and test something", you should be able to do it wiht sneaky.

Not really...

You're sneaky... not mighty, not brainy... sneaky doesn't allow you to make an attribute test, it allows you to perform a (open close door) action without costing an action.

If the special rules actually say "...the hero tests ___, then if he passes, he can open the door by performing an open door action..." then I agree with you. If the rules say, however, "As an action, a hero can test ___, and if he passes, open the door..." then I strongly disagree. The difference in phrasing amounts to the difference between a normal open/close door action with a prerequisite vs a special action to open a door. Sneaky would work for the former case, but not for the latter case.

In short, all Sneaky does is substitute exhausting a card where you would normally perform an "open/close door" action. If you're performing a special action or anything other than a standard "open/close door" action, then exhausting Sneaky is not a valid substitute.
