Things that needed to be said.

From now on I am simply going to be as fun and friendly as I can be, and share cool ideas and pictures, and just block negative people who are not here for that kind of fun in our community.

:)

But... you were part of the reason I started trying to be more positive. If you're just now starting... but I'm doing it because you were doing it... then you weren't doing it before... and Istanbul is somewhere in this general area... my life is a lie!

Seriously, though, this forum is a lot more fun and a lot less stressful if you approach it from a fun, Fly Casual angle. Let's cut back on the finger-pointing and name-calling, and instead help each other get better at the game and enjoy it more!

Am I the only one who hasn't been offended?

Perhaps I've missed the offending topics but nothing I've read has bothered me.

how about this for a thread title: "Fat ship nerf, 4TLT and the real reason FFG is making you buy a $40 damage deck"

No. I'm not offended. I do find it funny that someone calling out all the negative attacks is then attacked negatively.

I might get that some people are defensive and feel that they are OK and that someone who is new to posting is some upstart. I still think that the point of the thread, even if he did cuss, was to get people to chill out and quit being so negative.

OK so I've been a long time lurker and even long term player. I heavily lean towards competitive play as my mode of choice. All of that being said what is happening to this forum? It is just turning into a cesspool of negativity. We just had a thread locked where people were shaming each other over financial and life choices. Look at every thread where people try and shame others for what they play. Look at all the people telling others there play style is wrong, dumb, broken, no skill, no fun and so on and so on. Plus all of the whining that goes on. I can understand a rant or some grievances every now and then but for some of you guys its been happenening for 2+ years. Also stop believing that its your whining that is changing the game. If anyones whining will change anything it will be the playtesters over at the playtester forum. It's just getting to the point of ridiculousness lately. We can do so much better.

If you're a new player please don't think these forums are a general representation of the x wing community. There are some very vocal members who are in the minority of the x wing community.

Don't worry. New guy here, and believe it or not I haven't started judging the player base for negative comments on the forums. I understand that games bring out the best and worst in people; and with the anonymity of the internet as a shield, many people who in a face-to-face would be more civil in their comments aren't. This is not a bad thing. The torrent of raw, unedited honesty can sting at times, and in some areas it is misplaced, but I think it it best to know what people are truly thinking as long as it remains within the confines of the topic.

For example, I think that whether or not a player has made bad life choices and/or financial choices is irrelevant in terms of game discussion so long as: they have enough time to play a match, and have enough money to buy some ships. They could be a billionaire or live in a box under a bridge surrounded by their collection of rebels; it doesn't matter. If box-man walks to gaming center to play a match and then walks to a library to borrow a computer just to ask about anti-swarm tactics on the forums; I do think that he belongs here and deserves honest answers. If he instead decides to use the forum to describe the ways in which he believes that the box-faring life may not be for him, he should expect the same honesty to be applied to his new topic.

Understanding is not acceptance however, and while I while I do have to agree with Kevin Conway that "any man who judges by the group is a pea-wit", I am perfectly willing to judge bullies, blasphemers, carpetbaggers, heretics, vagabonds, breakfast cereals, ignoramuses, Proudfoots, and slanderers individually.

I completely agree. I post a topic so I can discuss with others- mostly positive BUT somehow the thread goes negative quick. I might post a stupid rule question (I started playing in April, so I'm still a newb) and sometimes I post a random pondering. My only goal is to hear others' opinions. I hope no one wants to block ME. ;)

My brother told me the other day that he stopped visiting the main forum and started hanging out exclusively in the squad lists and session reports subforums (subfora, if it pleases you). That's where there's a bit of good discussion about the actual game and less about the generic things tangential to the game. I think you'll find that in general, those topics don't get quite as heated because they're more focuses and less about things that are affecting (or potentially affecting) all players.

You should try hitting those up every now and then.

Do the math-wing: the jousting value of negative posts and allegations is effectively 0.00001%.

The value of all fun, informative and supportive post is near 100% :)

This forum has had a wave of negative posts and topics before. Some get banned, some leave and they are replaced by more who love the game.

It seems to happen after the release of a new wave and several so called ''the-sky-is-falling'' posts, but I am no expert in mass-psychology ;)

It will pass eventually and we will continue to enjoy the game and speculate what episode 7 is going to bring to our tables and if we get a corsec-green x wing (did I mention I want one?).

The game is fantastic and the level of balance after this amount of expansions is astonishing.

To quote many: fly casual :)

CARNOR JAX IS AMAZING!!! HE IS THE MAN!!

Sorry, needed to be said :P Just played with him today again and he rocks. :D

Yeah, I aim at him like I aim at Palob...

the 80-20 rule applies here.

This makes me miss the painting forum even more. Comments there were almost always positive and supportive; people seemed much more comfortable soliciting and offering constructive feedback.

I know... where do you hang, if you just want to love on STAR WARS FFG TOYS?

Not here... hecks no.

Look at all the people telling others there play style is wrong, dumb, broken, no skill, no fun and so on and so on.

If you aren't playing all TIEs, your play style is all of those things.

But their play style IS dumb, broken, no skill, and no fun. You're just mad that people are stating the truth.

The problem is that literally every mainstream list has been described as dumb, broken, no skill and no fun by someone on this forum.
TIE Swarm? Check.
4BZ? Check.
Dual Falcon? Check.
Turret-Ace? Check.
BroBots? Check.
TLT-wing? Check.
I could go on, and there's a couple upcoming lists that I'm 100% sure will be added as soon as they win an event and people feel the need to salvage their egos by claiming the winner only beat them because he was being dumb, unfun, flying a broken list, and should learn to use something that actually takes "skill". It seems that the only way to avoid being insulted these days is to play nothing except generic HWKs, Bombers and Scyks.
Or people could just stop complaining and go play some X-wing. That would solve all of our problems.

Internet + Anonymity = @$$hat

Enjoy the game you pay to enjoy. Unless the community is paying for your entertainment, ignore those who infringe on your hobby.

I'll have you know that those ships are the most overpowered, broken hunks of scrap I have ever seen! ... Just kidding! I'm a new player who was almost turned away from the game by the negativity on this forum and a few other places lately, but I decided to stick with it because I knew not everyone was crazy over it. I'm glad I did, and I look forward to attempting to post battle reports of my first game soon... Once I get the chance to play, that is.

Hahahaha get your own vader tots, gosh!

Am I the only one who hasn't been offended?

Perhaps I've missed the offending topics but nothing I've read has bothered me.

5% of offending statements are straight up insults to people, 45% are misunderstandings between people and 50% are people refusing to understand.
