The mine laying K-Wing and where to put it

By Admiral Deathrain, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I like the possibility of the ultimate Conner Net K-Wing. The build I am talking about is:

Warden Squadron Pilot (23), EM (2), Conner Net (4), Advanced SLAM (2) for a total of 31 points with space for Bombardier crew if you have the point.

My first idea with this was this list:

Net Layer (31)

Miranda Doni (29), TLT (6), RecSpec (3) for 38, 3PO would be better, but I don't have that option, if you do use him when trying this list.

Luke Skywalker (28), R3-A2 (2), VI (1) for 31, a list total of 100.

This is reasonably strong versus "Imperial Aces" kind of build with 2-3 Arc dodgers, since those just die to our Net-K-Wing, but abysmal versus 4 TLTs. Luke is the only one to kind of capable of resisting them, but both Miranda and the Warden are weak to them and the Warden loses a lot of worth when there are no clear priority targets. So how does one keep up with those TLT spammers? More efficiency! Lets add some B-Wings:

Net Layer (31)

Blue Squadron B-Wing (22) * 2

Stress-Hog (25) For again a total of 100.

The 25 point slot here is very versatile. I took a Stress-Hog here, because it is a lot of fun with good jousting efficiency, fitting the B-Wings. You could also get R7 Tarn, but I hesitate to do so because R7 is a lot weaker versus TLTs than the old meta and Integrated Astromech is on its way. Biggs Darklighter is another option, but the Net laying K-Wing really doesn't like formation flying. Gemmer Sojan with PTL, AT and Chardaan is really good at staying alive versus TLTs, but not much else. He is missing the damage. A third B-Wing is possible, but it puts you in a weird spot on what to do with the remaining three points. Upgrading the Blues to Daggers gives you room for either a Rookie Pilot, which is bad, but maybe playable in this situation, or a PTL GSP A-Wing with Bombardier for the K-Wing, where the A-Wing has the same problem Gemmer has.

All of these options feel a bit meh and are incredibly weak to Predator, except for the Dagger route. I am hesitant to even put any of these on the table, although the Stress-Hog version seems like it could be my thing.

One could also go full TLT with 2 Rebel Operatives and a Gold Squaron Pilot, but the HWKs are a bit flimsy and the B-Wings will do more work.

Has anyone of you made the ultimate disabler work? What was your context, and what do you think of my concepts?

My friend play that warden against me a lot, with normally very good results. Only thing I'd say is that two bombs is a bit thin for a dedicated bomber. Any chance of squeezing a proxy or a seismic in there? 3 b-wings? It's just that with 2 bombs you're limited to dropping them where you know they'll work - but often the most useful bomb is the speculative one, that threatens/closes down parts of the board, especially if you're running a slow squad...

You are right, with 3 B-Wings there are 3 free points for a Proximity Mine. I am a bit sceptical, though, because that blows up the point value even more. That Warden is not going to survive for long.

Conner Nets are more of an assasination tool than area denial, so two should be enough if you pack enough firepower to burst the netted ship down in two turns.

You're probably right, and against tlts I agree, the warden would probably be spacedust in two rounds of firing. But the thing is, the warden has absolutely no problems laying bombs down consistently (best in the game imo) and so in a game where your warden survives it will be reduced to being a 2-attack blocker very quickly.

You could also go with 3 IA rookies, who would be able to keep up with the warden a lot better? I don't know the math regarding b vs rookie in regards to surviving tlt spam though...

Warden (intelligence agent, A-SLAM, conners, munitions) [32]

these are the indisputable essentials for any Warden

add 2 points to taste (could be seismics, personally partial to autoblaster turret)

stir in 3 Blue Squadron Pilots

tada! 100 ponits of badass

scared of TLTs? sub in 3 greenies with ptl + juke/thrusters

Do you really think the IA is essential? Without it the options for ships open up a bit giving you that Stress Hog or maybe a BTL-A4 TLT Y-Wing with R2. Is the reason for having it turning your K-Wing into a competent blocker after the Nets are out? Otherwise I don't see much value when using a mine since they detonate on hit.

IA not only turns the K into a blocker and an arc-dodger (PWTs man, it sucks with 2 dice but it still exists; A-SLAM around and set up TLs and the Warden basically becomes a PS 2 ace) and an uber bomber (know exactly how to drop the nets, don't even need to overlap the ship immediately)

but

it turns everything you own with boost or roll into a blocker/dodger

it's ridiculous

I guess a TLT Y-Wing without title and R2 still is a good option in that case. Sounds really strong with the B-Wings barrel roll.
