Damage Decks
When will the new ones be sold separately? I understand they are tournament-necessary in a few months. Thanks
There is, at this time, no indication FFG will release the new damage deck as a stand-alone product.
Selling them seperately would be unprecedented for FFG, so it is probably fairly unlikely.
Besides, the new ships, pilots, and upgrades are quite fun!

Pretty much sums it up. Right now there currently is only 2 ways to get the new damage deck from FFG.
- Get the Episode VII The Force Awakens Core Set
- Attend X-wing Worlds 2015
Other than that you are going to have to look elsewhere unless FFG makes some sort of announcement.
Those wishing to join in the not being happy about it not being sold seperately are invited to join the following topic:
So that this one can sink down and we don't have too many repeating threads.

I think the original post is a rather neutral question on this debate. The question does not support or oppose any FFG business practices or products. It is a legitimate question that has been given a legitimate answer.

Selling bases & pegs was also unprecedented
It would be cool if there was a damage deck recycling program.
"Send in your old damage deck and 2 boxtops and we'll mail you a new damage deck, free of charge!"

They might do it further down the line, but I wouldn't get your hopes up.
For those who have no interest in the RMQ-style X-wing, white TIE fighter, other white TIE fighter, asteroids, new upgrade cards like Wired, updated rulebook or initiative token (ie: just want the damage deck), there are options, however.
If you're a tournament player, you could:
- Buy a Core Set and sell off the ships on eBay.
- Sell them (or gift them) to a friend, at an LGS if you have one or at a tournament to make your money back.
- Wait for eBay to sell them for sensible prices.
- Split a core set with someone who wants more ships.
- Go to Worlds and get a free damage deck.
- Host a tournament yourself and put them up as prizes.
- Ask Support nicely.
- Use the new ships. They're good ships and the names (apart from Poe Dameron, the trailer pilot, which anyone on this forum will have read and will read over and over anyway) are all made generic so no spoilers. If you've got them anyway and don't have an irrational (IMO) dislike of them might as well use them.
- Repaint the new ships to OT colours if their newness bothers you.
- Wait until you've seen the film, then if you don't find yourself suddenly wanting it do any of the above.
If you're not playing competitively you can do all of the above (except maybe Worlds) and also simply print the changed cards and stick them to your existing damage cards,

No, That's why I mentioned the other thread.

They likely wont be. Only place to get them outside the FA starter is they will be handed out for Worlds if you dont have one. But if your paying to attend the World event for a game and pay for a hotel, food, entry, and whatever else but not willing to spend 40$ for the new damage deck then somthing is off in my opinion. Hope that didnt come off as douchey or assinine.

I will mention once more that I very much hope the original Core will be updated with the new damage deck.
Having two general use damage decks being sold, but only having one be legal for tournament play, would be customer unfriendly.

Agreed. They should stop production of the old deck and package the new in the original starter from here on out. Honestly I wouldnt be at all surprised if that was the case...FFG isnt stupid...Hopefully someone who buys an original starter after the next reprint hits the stores could inform us?
I think there is a high chance the damage deck will be available separately.
This is just the sort of thing Fantasy Flight has print-on-demand printers for: an entirely-card product with low demand.
It would be too risky to use the usual mass printing method. Even though the price per card would be low, there would be a lot of unsold inventory taking up space and money. By printing on demand, Fantasy Flight would make sure they only printed exactly as much as they can sell.
The biggest challenge would be adapting to cutting and packaging half-poker-size cards.

And thats how it should be. Both cores should be viable out of the box. What I meant was that they are unlikely to sell JUST the damage deck by itself, which is what was asked.
It will be available on its own. On ebay when the 256 people at world's (alot of whom already have multiples of the core set) get another deck to add to their collection. I know I'll be dumping at least a couple myself after worlds.

Oh yes. Quite so. We are in full agreement on that score.
I guess my only question is when did $32 - $34 become the breaking point for people in this game....
http://www.coolstuffinc.com/p/219440 - $28 + shipping
http://www.cardhaus.com/catalog/board_games/star_wars_xwing__the_force_awakens_core_set/345733 - $26 + shipping
You get 3 ships, upgrades, extra dice, new damage deck, and spare movement templates......the ships alone are $30 + $6 for the dice. Think of it as getting that with a $2 coupon and freebies!

Indeed.. And Good Skies, bases and pegs are something my OCD has been craving fiercely, what with wanting to replace various 'casualties' among the ones I have >.>
I just store my models unmounted: base and peg death never bothers me because I'm never going to run all my ships at once.

It's not 32-34 dollars for anyone though, here the coreset costs about 50 euros, or 55 dollars.
I do have a little sympathy for people not in the US.. Europe gets it bad, Canada where I am isn't ideal but look.
Any cost increase from the standard US dollar amount on core would also be reflected on any expansion, including card sets.
I mean it does kinda suck essentially being a second edition, but that's just it. I understand not everyone has been through a game major change before, not all of us are 40K/Magic/D&D Veterans. So, what is water off a ducks back to me (seriously, if you ever spent real time in 40K you'd acknowledge how trivial this is in comparison) might not be for anyone else.
I guess what I am trying to say is thus: It is what it is, 2nd edition damage decks don't become tourny live till January. Ultimately in comparison with other games where an edition change can easily run into $500 in cards/new minis/rulebooks/codexes/sometimes even dice (though obviously not all $500) the x-wing core set might hit 50 euros, 40 pounds, whatever.
To me this is perspective, being a long term minis gamer. To you this may be a shock. Everyones mileage will vary.
Edited by DariusAPBThe "GW is worse" argument rarely makes a big impression on me. We all know about GW, it doesn't change anything about the issue at hand. If my roof is leaking, you can point out that drowning at the bottom of the ocean is worse, but what would be the point?
Then say wizards is worse instead.
Comparison is often needed for perspective. GW and Wizards like it or not are the benchmarks, no different than the common TIE Fighter is the gold standard for comparing ships.
