Frenzy

By GMSolitaire, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

Hey all,

One of my PCs asked me for details of using Frenzy. He doesn't want to pull his punches against the other PCs should they come to blows, but still wants to know what his options are as attack types. I know in DH1, you had to All Out Attack, but I can't find a citation for such a rule in 2nd ed.

Any details on what you let your players do?

Cheers

My take on it is that it should not deviate too much from the kind of attacks he made on the enemies.

Planning how to efficiently take down other PCs is a huge red flag. If everyone's on board with a Paranoia-style game of backstabbing, have fun, but if the other players are at all expecting cooperation this player's actions are going to cause a lot of drama.

Cool, thanks guys. Maybe I phrased it slightly incorrectly. He's actually ok with using the same types of attacks he would on NPCs, what I'm wondering is; what actions are allowed when using Frenzy, even on NPCs (and also which do you disallow)?

Logically, I'm ok with the use of attacks such as Standard, All Out, Charge and Lightning; but my question more comes from being able to use what I view as being more tactical moves such as Manoeuvre, Feint and Defensive Stance.

Would you also let the range of actions change if the PC were to take Battle Rage, other than being able to Parry?

As far as I understand any melee attack type on table 7-1 page 219.

I would not allow the frenzy player to change weapons, though if disarmed grapple seems like a good follow up.

I would also say that if the player hurts one of his friends he should get bonus to the next willpower check scaling with how hurt the friend becomes.

I would concur with your opinion on defensive options. I would continue to disallow those actions for frenzied targets even if they take battle rage. Frenzy+Battle Rage sets up a character to defend with an offensive attribute that is buffed by the Frenzy, AND renders the character immune to a bunch of nasty stuff.

There are no limts to what types of attack actions you can take while frenzied, iirc.

There's nothing limiting the attack types, no, but they are required to either be attacking, or moving closer to the nearest enemy in order to attack.

Manoeuvre, Defensive Stance, Feint, etc. are not Attack subtype actions.

Personally I'd say by RAW they can't even take an Evasion action. If its not a Movement subtype action being used to approach an enemy, or an Attack subtype action, then Frenzy seems to disallow it.

I'd allow parry, especially as there are talents that let people use that action during an all-out, plus you CAN counter-attack from a parry and it seems to fit with the style.
