Decimator Dread

By lurq, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Long story short - I lose to the Decimator all the time. It's become a phobia and a running joke that I have some sort of mental block. I see Oicunn or Chiraneau and freak out.

Help me defeat my friends' Decimator-heavy lists.

Due to my gaming budget, I've only invested in Scum, but have the full set of scum ships including:

6 - Z-95's

3 - Y's

2 - Aggressors

1 - YV-666

1 - Starviper

2 - Scyks

1 - Firespray

1 - HWK

1 - Kihraxz

Pretty new to X-wing, so any squad-building advice about the above is appreciated.

If you can proxy upgrades you could try 3x TLT. Against Decimators that should put up a consistent 5-6 damage per turn! Plus you have 28 points left over for some Z's or a cheap ace (like N'dru).

I don't own S&V, but I own a Decimator. There is a named ship, I can't remember if it's an M3A or a Star Viper, but it enables the pilot to steal an evade or focus token from an enemy ship and use it as its own. Then add in the Hawk (and a proxy TLT may be a great addition to it) with Moldy Crow and a weapons engineer, and you have a lot of focus to give away and spend. I hate that ship that steals focus & evade. It's a killer. Oh, and Mangler Cannon. Decimators that get crits can really lose potency (unless equipped with Determination, in which case it's not as ugly a ship as before).

Also, put Autothrusters on your important ships.

Good luck, and have fun.

Against turrets, you want to joust the living daylight out of them with efficient ships like Z95s. They excel even more against ships with low (or in the case - zero) defense.

Tips for flying swarms against turrets:

1. Fly them slow - don't get greedy with aggressive maneuvers unless you know for certain where they'll end up.

2. Stay in the middle of the board and force the Decimators towards corners.

3. Place large asteroids in corners if you can. It helps with cornering Decimators and also spreads out asteroids so they don't have clusters to wrap around.

Bonus: Keep Prince Xizor out of harm's way if your friend uses Vader crew - otherwise go to town.

Thanks everyone - very helpful. I'll definitely try the Xizor/Z-Swarm option, the Y- TLT's + look into the HWK - Palob idea.

What do you think of this as a hybrid of the ideas?

Guri with Autothrusters, Lonewolf and Sensor Jammer should have no problem against any turret ship. That's 39 pts. Then put some generics in there to fill up

You should be fine with that.

Overall it looks good. Easy to fly and has a lot of durability. Your lack of an "ace" might give you some problems against Superdash, Soontir, but it will certainly shred Decimators that wander into arc.

Inertial dampeners on Binayres isn't going to be useful since you're such low Pilot Skill anyway, so you won't be reacting to much.

If you want to go all in for jousting, you could consider upgrading those Unhinged Astromechs to R4 Agromechs and also giving the Y-wings BTL-A4 titles for some ridiculous head-on firepower. With that said, green 3's are really handy for kiting, and no title gives you some insurance against arc-dodgers.

Be mindful of where the Decimator is going. It wants you to chase it and then it will run away and Soontir will flank. Be prepared to turn on Soontir when he threatens your flanks.

I think BTL-A4 is great against Decimators. I took this list against a Chiraneau/Fel list and destroyed both ships during round 3.

Cartel Spacer (14)

Syndicate Thug (18)

-BTL-A4 (0)

-Autoblaster Turret

Syndicate Thug (18)

-BTL-A4 (0)

-Autoblaster Turret

When it's time to hunt Fel, block him with the M3-As (barrel roll is great here) and then lay into him with the Autoblaster Turrets. The BTL-A4 title also helps rack up hits on Chiraneau. The "Mangler" Cannon can do some work as well. If I recall correctly, I got 5 Direct Hits on the Decimator in our second game. I lost my last ship while the Decimator had 1 hull point remaining. So stick those crits to its fat hull!

Mangler Cannons ruin Decimators.

Bossk + Mangler + Predator. Back it up with extra bodies (Z-95s or Turret Y-Wings) and you'll wear it down fast.

Also massed Ion weapons.
