Why not Name tags instead of number tags.

By Kiwi Rat, in Star Wars: Armada

As most of us has noticed each ship (and fighter) base regardless of size can be tagged with a number, so you can see which is which if you have two or more of the same ship.

Why don't FFG make some Name tags instead, with ship names that has a cool ring to them, or which is based on ship names from the Canon or EU?

After all "Moving the Indomitable into attack position" sounds much cooler than I'm moving cruiser number 5 over here.

Anyway just another funny idea from the Kiwi Rat. ;)

I think mostly because they're reserving the most awesome, iconic names for the ship Titles, which is exactly what they are...

But hey, I named all of my ships anyway. Even when I'm not using the Titles.

Yes but then FFG could have at least made some name tags that matches with the ship Titles cards they have made so far.

Instead, as it is currently Dominator is called the lesser known and less scary name "Cruiser number 3"

Mine aren't even Numbered on the table.

They're individually painted.

Including the name.

Someone with custom printing capabilities is about to earn themselves some 3rd party accessories money I think.

I could do it, but, y'know, with the State of Republic Credits out here in the Outer Rim of Canada... :)

I wish I had the knowledge on how to do that. . . I could do it I guess but I have no idea how. . . Hmmmm Google project

I name them all anyway :P I use the power of my memory to keep the names in order

Indeed, my Flag Ship is always called "the Lucky Jack" and her escort, "the Greasy Bastard" :D

Play Armada on Vassal - you can name your ships there :D

Sadly my painted ships looks exactly similar to each other.

Will break that pattern in the VSD

Sooo, something like this?

Complete with Raised Text. This should theoretically make its way through my 3D Printer partner... I've been boasted a 0.1mm Resolution capability, and that lettering is 0.2mm Thick.

EDIT: Even if my Local Printer won't take the job, they'd be about $20US from Shapeways in White Strong + Flex.

If the calling is good on it, I'll switch it out from one Sprue of all of the Titles, to a Ship-Class basis...

A VSD Pack, a Nebulon-B Pack, etc...

That'd save on immediate cost, but probably end up costing you more if you went all out...

Hmmmmmm I have a custom laser place that could make these. . . Would need names to use beyond the Title names. . . Would need to make. . . Hmmmm would want a method to flag ships as well. . . Need a connection method. . .

Yes I know the names I suggested is mostly RN names, but that is after all because they sound strong, with purpose and poise to them.

How many will shake in their pants if they where told "The Munson* has jumped out of hyperspace and is in attack position" :)

*Woody Harroldson's character in the movie "Kingpin"

Thanks to Bucky O'Hare, we have the greatest ship name ever, and it served me well in the Rogue Trader RPG. I can't wait to introduce my enemies to the Imperial Star Destroyer Righteous Indignation.

... I think I'll just file these away for now. :(
