Obligation and extra exp and credits

By Warl, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

We just started using Oggdudes Character generator and it brought up something We may not have been clear on..

starting with a Base Obligation of 5

When you take extra money and credits....

Say on the money, if the player takes 100 extra credits.. his obligation increases by 5.... but if he takes 2500 credits.... it increases by +10

does this mean +5 for 1000 = an obl of 10 and +10 for 2500 extra for a total obl of 15?

Or does it mean +5 for 1000 = 10 and +15 for 2500 = 20?

We have been doing the former

but the character generator looks like it should be the later?

By the ECRB taking an extra 5 Obligation will give you 1,000 credits. I do t know how it is in the char gen. We never used Obligation for money, everyone always uses it for XP.

10 additional Obligation will give you 2,500.

Your post confused me.

So all characters start with 5. If you want the 2,500 that is 10 additional Obligation. Your additional Obligation can never exceed your starting Obligation, therefore, your starting Obligation needs to be 10, and then your additional obligation can be 10 for the money for a total of 20 Obligation.

Also by RAW, you can not take the same type of additional Obligation twice. You can't have both the 1,000 and the 2,500 money or 5 XP and 10 XP additional Obligations. You could have one Money and one XP though.

Again, this is RAW, and GMs can change that if they want to.

By the book, a character can only ever double their starting obligation (which is determined based upon party size).

So a 5 player party starts with 10 obligation each and each player can only take an additional 10 obligation. That can be 10 more obligation for +10xp, 10 more obligation split between +5xp and +1000cr, 10 more obligation for +2500cr, or 5 more obligation for +5xp OR +1000cr.

Smaller parties start with larger base obligations and can, consequently, make more complex choices with additional obligations.

Personally, I prefer to have all players start with 20 obligation and give them the option to double it (irrespective of party size) and just ignore the 'bad juju' associated with 100+ party obligation, but YMMV.

It's ADDITIONAL Obligation that let's you take that stuff.

All characters start with a base amount of Obligation. By going to 10 total, either by taking on another or increasing what you've got, you are able to get some small amount of exp, or monehz.

Base Obligation does NOT count towards getting that shtuff, though.

okay, I understand what you are all saying...

But in the character creation program Oggdude made... If I take an obligation from 5 to 10 or 15 it only unlocks the 5 obligation increase.... but if I take the obligation to 20, it then unlocks both the =5 obligation and the +10 obligation... it is confusing.

I missed the part that they couldn't more than double it, the group Originally started at 10 base each... but has since the new players have taken it over 5 players the new ones have dropped to 5

so I see where the problem is/was with our understanding of the program.
