Bored with the Rebel Ship Builds. Help.

By Slugrage, in X-Wing

Okay, I admit it. I'm bored of the existing Rebel Alliance builds.

To be fair, TFA Core isn't at my FLGS yet, so I haven't had a chance to officially add in the T-70 shenanigans. I used to play the Alliance all the time from the release of the game up to at least Wave 4. Then once S&V hit, I've barely touched the Alliance at all. I can't build lists that feel that I'd actually enjoy playing them. My old go-to list was some combination of Kyle HWK, Garven X-Wing, and a few A-Wings. But then once the game shifted around a few times, I haven't been able to find that one magic list that I *like* playing. Sure, I can build a list that wins, but it just doesn't feel... fun.

Does anyone else get this way? Is there one faction that you used to love but now, just doesn't do it for you?

I've been bored with Rebels for years, lol. The traditional tanky builds just weren't that exciting to me.

I'd suggest either shelving them and playing something wildly different than your typical lists, or maybe really digging into one of the new ships (K-Wing or T-70, once it gets into your 'hood). Usually a hiatus or playing something radically different refreshes me on my go-to builds and/or the game in general.

What do you usually enjoy about flying Rebels that hasn't been there for you anymore?

My biggest issue flying Rebels today is their general lack of interesting positioning. Imperials have barrel rolls coming out of their ears. Scum have super zippy large ships. Rebels have a general fleet of slower-moving ships that don't reposition well, and rely on turrets to keep firing as well as massed control options. They used to also be able to claim the synergy title, but that's dissipated a bit as the other factions have built their own powerful combos.

The new TFA stuff helps with this a bit, and allows the Rebels to build powerful generic swarm fleets and strong T-70s with repositioning abilities. It'll go a long way to helping them with their mobility, which should be fun.
