Did I Say Something Bad About Squadrons? Must Have Been Your Imagination.

By BiggsIRL, in Star Wars: Armada

In Which Biggs Discusses Why Squadrons Actually Work With That Tournament Math He Was Discussing in His Last Monday Article Which (The Math That Is) May Be Just A Bunch of Malarkey Anyways And Why Do You Read Anything I Write Didn't You Learn The Last Time?

So, because last time I wrote my article on why the GenCon Special worked as well as it did, and imagined a Rebel Counterpart, in this article I took the information in that article and applied it to use with squadrons, since that is all anyone in the Armada community cares about.

Plus I kinda promised at the end of the last one that I'd talk about squadrons.

Yes you said something to that effect. *biggs waves hand* But it must of been my imagination. Moving along...

What, you think you're some kind of Jedi?

I'm an Australian. Mind tricks don't work on me...

Only Beer.

Are you implying that Alcoholic substances are or are not potential and potent mind manipulation devices and purchases regulated by governments?

I'm implying nothing of the sort.

But I do value Beer higher than Republic Credits...

I mean, hell, have you seen the value of the Canadian Dollar at the moment?

Appreciate the thoughts, as always.

It sounds like the two carrier/full squadron build makes it harder to hedge your bets in list building, so the strategy becomes to not lose any ships, either through defensive upgrades on the ships, or offensive firepower from ships and squadrons, unless you supplement with squadron-friendly objectives.

So I guess the next question for dual-carrier guys is, how do you keep your ships alive when there are only two of them? Or, if one ship usually goes down, how do you make up the points?

I don't think carriers will work until we can run ISDs / Mon Cals or Raiders with Expanded Hangers. Two ISDs, two raiders, and a Rymer ball will be possible, or perhaps a GSD and some more squadrons instead of the raiders. The problem right now, with Imps at least, is that the VSD is just not maneuverable enough to survive in a low ship count buid which is the only way Imps can go right now in squadron heavy builds. When we can run an ISD and several other ships, tabling quickly won't be in the cards and then the bombers have time to do some work.
