Elf friend combos possibilities

By Lecitadin, in Strategy and deck-building

I'm very excited about the new Elf-friend card from the Treachery of Rhudaur pack !

I'm thinking about some great possible combos (I'm not a very experienced player and don't have all the expansions and AP, so I might not think of some obvious combos). A few that come to mind right away :

-Beravor, with Light of Valinor, for questing and card drawing each turn

-any tactic hero with some will power, also with Light of Valinor

-Cloak of Laurien, which is not restricted, to add more defence

-Star brooch, that I'll maybe finally ending up playing

And you? Any ideas? ;)

I can't wait to put it on Hero Gandalf! Giving him Light of Valinor, Cloak of Lorien, Elven Spear, and/or Rivendel Blade will give him so many buffs!

Man... Gandalf hero!! Amazing!! Good one!

Having only 2 copies of Unexpected Courage. LoV and Elf-friend leaves more room to put UC on an another hero.

Spirit Merry would also benefit, if you dont't have fast hitch and don,t want the Pony.

Bard+Rivendell Blade+Straight Shot

Wow... super for multiplayer!!!

Other thoughts : Eleanor and, mostly, for solo, Denethor , that can becomes a super scrying/defender (add Cloak of Laurien) . Elenaor can also become a defender with Gondorian Shield, if she doesn't use her ability.

Don't forget anyone can become a good defender with Gondorian shield if they have steward of gondor attached.

For some thematic appropriate dwarfness

Gimli + Elf-friend

Elven mail

Rivendale blade

Steward of Gondor

Heir of Mardil

Blood of the numenor

Gondorian fire

Light of the Valinor

Then buff him with the normal dwarf shenanigans. Get some wardens of healing in to make sure he doesn't die but have some damage on him to make him have quite high base damage for good measure.

The simplest is elves get all the best weapons - Rivendell Blade and Bow of the Galadhrim, so being able to put those on heroes like Brand and Bard will be great. Cloak of Lorien is a good one which I hadn't thought of - make Beregond an Elf-friend and boost him up to 7 def, or 8 in a Forest. Light of Valinor of course for any versatile hero. Fair and Perilous likewise.

Being able to heal with Silvan Trackers could also be nice - perhaps make Gloin, Treebeard or Erkenbrand an Elf-friend? Or all three for good measure?

Oh yeah. Treebeard + Elf-friend + Fair and Perilous. Deal 5 damage and attack for 15.

It's gonna be ridiculous on Treebeard! :o

Yeah, this is a heck of a card. Not as paradigm-breaking as the spoiled Sword-thain, but potentially even more powerful.

What do y'all think about Elf-friend vs. a hypothetical Dwarf-friend?

The only dwarf friends are other dwarves! =p

I think right now Treebeard is the best target. Light of Valinor, Fair and Perilous, and Silvan Tracker healing. Then maybe Eowyn and Bard are the next tier.

+1 for Davachidos Gimli! :D

edit:

you can add Aragon (leadership) with Celebrian's Stone and e.g. Merry for a starting threat of 29 or you could stick to purple&red because that stone will give you access to spirit sphere... its getting better and better

Woha! I am exited about those possible combinations.

Heroes:

Treebeard (doing almost everything in each round, faster as no tree has gone before...)

- Elf-Friend

- U.C.

- LoV

- Fair and Perilious (+Elronds Council)

- Star Brooch

- Steed of Imaldis

Denethor (defender)

- A Burning Brand

- Blood of Numenor

Merry (quest and thread reduction)

- Fast Hitche(s)

- Hobbit Pony

- Elf-Friend

- Steed of Imaldis

- Boots of Erebor (just in case :D )

Add in Lembas, Peace and Thought, Silvan Tracker, Elronds Council and maybe even Asfaloth and you are good to go!

I'm not convinced (about Elf-friend in general, but especially) about the cloak. You can get the same effect on Beregond for example simply with Dunedain Warning, a card that has existed forever, and you don't have to play Elf Friend first. You could perhaps argue that the forest thing is a big deal -which it's not really-, but even in that case a second Dunedain Warning is strictly better and for the same resource cost as Elf-Friend + Cloak.

My main issue with this card is that you have to play it one of a few ways:

1. Include specifically for "combo" purposes; Bard with Bow of the Galadhrim, Eowyn with Fair and Perilous, etc. You are committing cards to your deck that you can't play without Elf-Friend. The fact is, even with x3 copies, you might not draw it, or not draw it until too late, and then you could be stuck with a lot of cards that you can't play.

2. including it in an elf deck that already has elf equipment seems much stronger to me as a way to beef up your allies by allowing you to pawn off extra copies of your elf-only equipment that you have already played on your characters onto characters of a teammate. This also allows you to have your allies benefit from Silvan Tracker.

anyway, LoV is good but it's unique. If you or anybody else is running Spirit Glorfindel (which seems likely, right?) LoV is going on him. Otherwise, sure, it's nice. It's not lighting the world on fire for me though.

Treebeard is pretty good for both Fair and Perilous and Silvan tracker. He might be the best of the bunch to take this.

Star Brooch is kinda bad unless you are specifically trying to combo it with Fair and Perilous. Even then, it's only okay.

Gandalf, yes, but it's already so easy to buff Gandalf. He has so many crazy attachments already, I really don't see giving him Elven equipment. It's not needed, IMO.

I see a lot of theorycrafting, but I have yet to see a deck. My question is; does it work ? And how well?

I am going to run this in the Erestor deck, for Boromir and other potential candidates from around the table. I agree it is better to have other possible targets for the Elven cards just in case you don't draw it. Erestor is great for this because a) the chance you draw it is much better and b) he is not a bad target himself (for the likes of Elven Spear).

From the "across the table" targets, Treebeard indeed seems best. Light of Valinor, Silvan Tracker and Fair and Perilous are all excellent combos.

It looks like Ian designed a card for this game...

Okay, now this is ridiculous. Look what I stumbled across:
