Themed lists; does anyone try this?

By joewrightgm, in X-Wing Squad Lists

One of the things I like about this game is the very strong theme you can establish the squad you construct.

I usually try to do something themed when I put together a list and have a lot of fun with it.

One of my favorites is saber squadron; ptl and auto thruster fel, and fels wrath (as he's supposed to be fels wingman) and 2 saber interceptors.

Cunningly enough, the Times I've run this, wrath never was killed. People where either trying to kill fel or the easier to hit sabers.

So my question is, does anyone try this? What are some of you flavorful lists?

Hi,

last weekend i wrote a scenario for 8 players. Every player had a Squad of two Ships of the same kind and a mission.

2 X-Wing, mission was to escort the Y-Wings. They scored extra ponts for every Y-Wing that survived the battle.

2 Y-Wings, mission was to bomb the Raider Corvette, they scored extra ponts for every damage card, they dealt to the Raider corvette.

2 A-Wings, mission was to hunt down the TIE-Bombers, they scored extra ponts for every bomber they shot down.

CR90 without any specific mission.

1 TIE Advanced and 2 TIE Fighters, mission was to escort the TIE Bombers, they scored extra points for every TIE Bomber that survived the battle.

2 TIE Bombers, mission was to bomb the CR90, they scored extra points vor every damage card they dealt to the CR90.

2 TIE interceptors, mission was to hunt down the Y-Wings, they scored extra points for every Y-Wing they shot down.

Raider corvette without any specific mission.

Beside this, every player had one ship marked with a token. This ship represented him.

Every player additionaly had a hidden agenda, that no other player was allowed to know.

hidden agendas:

X-Wing: friendly rivalry, pilot had to shoot down a ship that was alrady hit before by the A-Wing Pilot.

A-Wing: rescpected foe, pilot had to deal dammage to the TIE interceptor pilot, but the TIE interceptor pilot had to survive the battle.

Y-Wing: hated foe, pilot had to shoot down the TIE Interceptor pilot.

TIE Advanced: symbol of the empires might, pilot had to make sure, that the TIE Interceptor pilot survives the battle.

TIE Interceptor: imperiums best, pilot had to shoot down the A-Wing Pilot.

TIE Bomber: 1000 needles and blast to oblivion, pilot scored points if he used primary weapons on huge ships and secondary weapons on small ships.

We played from 4pm to 11pm and had a lot of fun.

That sounds amazing! I would would love to play a game like that. Themed games are always fun & hidden objectives are a great way to add an element of surprise. Excellent work

A few other ideas that could work:

Ace Pilot: +5 points when you destroy a ship without being hit by it

Show Off: +1 point each time you fly through an obstacle without stopping on it

Giant Killer: +5 points for destroying a ship with more than double your hull points

How about making a version for Scum? Black Sun themed for example

Cool ideas

i like espesialy the show off. Adds a lot of story to a game.

Scum should be easy to add. My first idea for our game was a 3 faction game, but my gaming room ist just nor big enough :-(

Scum could have missions like: Bounty hunting, the hunter only knows, that his bounty is one of the rebell/imp ships but doesnt know which one till he made a hit against that specific ship. Use spare cards of the rebell/imp shiptypes that are in play (only one card for each type, it doesnt matter how many ships of that type are in play). Each time the bounty hunter hits one ship the first time, shuffle the cards and draw one. If the card is the ship, that was hit, it is his bounty and he has to take that ship down. If its not the ship, take the card of the ship, that was hit, out of the card pile.

P.S. sorry for my english

Thanks. Shame you can't do 3 player, that could be great.

Your English is fine by the way. :)

I like the Bounty Hunter idea. How about this as another version?

Dead or Alive: Hidden objective for the Bounty Hunter. (Preferably a named Scum pilot). Pick an enemy ship and write it down secretly. Must be a named pilot or have an Elite Talent slot. Then, if the Hunter destroys that ship, +1 point for killing the target. If they overlap it after performing a manoeuvre, they can show the secret note and reveal the hidden objective. For the rest of that round they cannot shoot, perform Actions or roll defence dice. If they survive the game +10 points as they have captured the target.

Sorry if that's overcomplicated, it made sense in my head!

P.S. sorry for my english

I guarantee your English is better than my [insert non-English language here].
