Scrapped Objective

By Ceryliae, in Star Wars: Armada

I was looking through the Star Wars Armada product page on Fantasy Flight's website, and I found a scrapped objective under the summary.

Thoughts on the objective? I think it sounds really interesting.

It also looks like originally moving through an obstacle would give you a damage card as well as landing on it.

Looks like an old iteration of the rules, as you don't take damage for moving through an obstacle.

Yeah, I noticed that. From just glancing at it, this objective seems like it would really change how the game is played.

Would be fun for a house rules game,

I remember seeing that in the previews. Always seemed like it would add a lot of time and complexity to the round, with every obstacle moving every round. I think I can imagine why FFG scrapped it...too much busywork for too little result...for an official objective, anyway. Could be a fun one of game.

Debris: 2 damage to one hull zone.

This still works and would be a tone of fun to play. Being able to move debris and asteroids around. . . Very thematic

It was in the initial preview for armada, i remember how stoked i was for games that would involve moving asteroids. Kinda disappointed they took it out, but i can see why.

It is a giant wall of text and does make the game go longer.

You take damage for landing in asteroids, not flying over them.

Take that line out then. All good

The whole point of an objective is to change the rules.

I think I'll print this puppy out and use it next time I'm hunting Rebel scum, I need more of a challenge.

I hope FFG will release new objectives in the future since not having to play the same "mission" over and over and over is one of the things that drew me to Armada over X-Wing (although I do still like that game). I also really like how the objectives balance out first player vs. second player asymmetrically.

Sounds like you need to work with those players so they provide the challenge you seek

You have no idea, last tournment I had to explain the concept of objectives to some, D'ho. Some casual games, I'll hand them the objectives and tell them to pick the one they want, and then to pick first or second player. Plus, I've kept my same list and let them know it isn't going to be changing. I'll even let them play my list and do up my own Rebel list. I have seen progress, need to be in top form if a threat to the Empire arrives. Thank Palpatine for the Rebel target drones he has provided us.

P.S. And how cool are moving rocks going to be!

P.P.S. May want to replace the station with a wormy rock. :)
