Non-standard Aggressor lists, the utility of the dual cannon slot, Ion Cannons, and anti-TLT loadouts

By ParaGoomba Slayer, in X-Wing

Firstly, in an effort to accurately describe what this thread is about, I decided to make san overly long, descriptive title instead of something like, "Aggressor Thread" or whatever non-descript/clickbait title that would tell me absolutely nothing about its contents. :P

Okay, so in our TLTurretwing meta, there is a lot of talk about Sensor Jammer. This got me thinking about other non-standard loadouts, and possibly using an IG as a one of.

What about pairing an Ion Cannon with a Mangler Cannon? It costs the same as an HLC but you gain some utility from it. If you can ionize a TLT Y Wing to prevent a green 3 speed maneuver, that seems good. And if you want pure damage you go for straight up Mangler or primary weapon.

What about going without a cannon? This not only saves you a bunch of points, but also allows you to run something that's not IG-88B. I'm thinking A & C, 2x Autothrusters, 2x FCS, and a Kirahxz.

What about running one naked, or one with a Mangler slapped on it alongside 5 Bananas?

IDK, I'm just throwing ideas out there. Seems like they're viable outside of the standard 2 ship list Terminators or occasional pairing with a Scum Firespray but there hasn't been a lot of discussion on it. With TLT's dominating the meta at 1 agility, perhaps dropping B and maybe cannons altogether is the way to go.

It's too dangerous to drop IG-88B because some players are flying TLT Y-wings. There are still many Soontir Fels and Carnor Jaxes out there.

I have often thought about the Sensor Jammer though. This means you need something to compensate for no FCS, such as Predator (which will tear through PS 2 Y-wings and still let you re-roll one die vs. Soontir).

The Range 3 battle is still yours. You need Autothrusters to kick in when defending against so many TLTs. So you can't give your opponent the extra die; worth having a secondary weapon around even if for some reason you don't IG-88B. Ion Cannons aren't a bad idea if you're not running B.

I think 88A with Autothrusters and Lone Wolf would make for a really tough 40 points that could dive in on formations pounding away with Primaries while regenerating shields with kills. That leaves a lot of points for other stuff.

I like the Ion + Mangler combo, and I honestly think that it would shake up a lot of other lists as well, especially with 88B. Use your token to dodge the ion capped at one damage and risk the mangler, or take the ion and suffer (potentially) less damage? I think Ion control is going to start making a comeback paired with an ace, or some ship to take advantage of the predictable location of the range 1 donut hole.

I think 88A and B could be the new go-to pairing, especially with the MOV change.

Y-wings have a lot of hull, and crits hurt. Mangler's not a bad call, and might in some cases actually be a better call than the heavy laser.

That, and nothing says the two IGs need to be kitted out the same.

IG88C with the boost/evade can help get into range one of the TLT and still be useful against other lists if you are only flying one IG

I think the second cannon will be put to use when the tractor beam is available

B is still king and the HLC is still bonkers good, but there is a large degree of freedom in how to kit them out.

Yeah, early on when these things came out there was some fooling around with stuff like Adrenaline Rush and Inertial Dampeners by a friend. What the combo allowed hum to do was K-turn or sloop whenever the hell he wanted to.

What about something like: Experimental Interface, Expert Handling, and FCS on IG-88D. That's what, 44 points? Throw Inertial Dampeners in there for 45. Now you have this hypermobile ship that can move wherever it wants to and doesn't care about stress with FCS. The EI + EH combo gives you two stress though which is rather costly and forces the barrel roll to be the second action should you want to combo it with a boost.

So how about Expert Handling and Advanced Sensors? Do a stress BR and ditch it with a green bank or just keep it and do a 1 hard turn. Now you're moving your Aggressor like a decloaking Phantom haha, and a pre-nerf one at that. And that should make you much harder to block.

A note about Sensor Jammers....it also works great against Ordnance. While we aren't seeing a lot of it right now...I have a feeling we will see more of Ordnance in the near future.

Another thing to note about Sensor Jammers is that it then makes your TLT's effective as they don't have their Focus anymore....if you went that way.

I like the idea of going with just one IG-88. I think when we get the next couple of Bounty Hunters that it could make things very interesting. I wonder what any IG-88 combined with the Houndstooth would be like? They might be able to help cover for each other when one doesn't move much, but has huge firing arcs and the other can move around like crazy.

I also like the idea of throwing out cheap generics with a list. It's something I've been thinking about how a few cheap generics really do add to a list these days.

I also like the idea of a cheap IG-88. What did someone say? Lone Wolf and Autothrusters? Sound great! Especially when the rest of your list rushes in...like....Boba?

How about a more resilient build like... A and C with Push the Limit, Sensor Jammer, Autothrusters, Proximity Mines, and Glitterstim? Should help counter a lot of the new threats /and/ keep an edge with the new MOV rules.

What about IG 88A and C. Both with AT, FCS, Crackshot, Glitterstim, Homing Missiles, and Seismic Charges?

I don't think they have Missile slots.

Y-wings have a lot of hull, and crits hurt. Mangler's not a bad call, and might in some cases actually be a better call than the heavy laser.

But the symmetry....

I don't think they have Missile slots.

I thought they did for some reason. Awwwwwww.

HLC it is then. >_>

I've been trying to fly C+D with SoT, AdvSen, Stealth Device. The idea is that you have super unpredictable movement (seven options at the speed-three band), can take an action before your movement, and would get four green dice since it feels like IGs spend a lot of time in range one or two.

I think their PS puts them at a disadvantage for this build, however, and I have yet to win a match with this setup.

It's a great combo... barrel rolling large ships are always fun, especially when it's a large ship BR before a maneuver. I'd only ever use it on B though... the other guys can't handle losing out on that much firepower.
