Boba & Ig B or D post large ship rule change?

By Higgo, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So after winning one tournament with Boba and YV pre big ship rule change and doing poorly at the next one post i need to adapt my list.

Thematically i started with scum Boba who would get into midst of everything. I tooled him up with Proton bombs and VI. I paired him with sycks with HLCs to offer that weapons platform from afar (that went well- bye bye sycks)

Then I settled on YV moralo with HLC. It worked ok but its so flawed that it is too easy to take out (or at lest get to half points now )

The natural progression of the list is an IG. My natural draw was IG B with fire control systems, auto thrusters, and VI, HLC particularly after a terrible period of poor dice rolling! However an Ig D with advanced sensors, HLC, VI, auto thrusters and unpredictable moves seems like it might be more durable. Given the large ship points it seems to be a safer and more defensive option.

Any help appreciated

So, I won the Austin Regionals with a Fett and IG list. It's pre-Wave 7 and predates the point change, but I did very well with it. It's a solid, potent list. Here are couple links where I go into depth on the list.

These days you can probably convince me to drop the Proton Bomb for two Glitterstims.

The trick with the list is that you really have to be on your game to win. It's not as forgiving as some of the other regeneration lists. Nor does it have the damage output to rival others. Fly smart and fly safe and it can really wreck your opponent though.

I based my list on Sables list. I flew it today in a tournament to a 3-1 record and third place. I wouldn't replace the Proton Bomb. It was awesome at limiting my opponents options, or punishing them if they chose to ignore it. I ran the Mangler and didn't have an issue with the decreased damage output. The crits were good to me. I chose recon over tactician because I am a newer player, and not as good at controlling the range of the engagement as Sable probably is.

I found the list a blast to play. I beat a veteran player in the last round. He was undefeated while flying a classic Fat Han. I won 100-0. I'll be flying this one again for sure.

IG-88B (36)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Fire-Control System (2)
"Mangler" Cannon (4)
Glitterstim (2)
Autothrusters (2)

Boba Fett (Scum) (39)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Proton Bombs (5)
Recon Specialist (3)
Inertial Dampeners (1)
Engine Upgrade (4)

Total: 100

I think the best advice here is: don't fret about the large ship points, and certainly don't go rebuilding your list because of it. All it means is that we're not getting easy-mode 100-0 wins anymore as we'll give up points at more-or-less the same rate as a list of multiple small ships. It doesn't mean you're suddenly going to be losing more games; it just means you won't be winning by quite as much. But as long as you're still winning you'll hardly notice. ;)

I've played ig b now with vi, hlc, advanced sensors and auto thrusters. I'm tempted by the alternate of Ptl and mangler cannon instead of hlc and vi. Any thoughts?

My advice: don't do it. I am firmly of the belief that, despite the 9 green moves, PtL is a terrible choice for 88s. The last thing you want to be doing is making them predictable, and the second-last thing you want to do is lock yourself out of the S-loops. If you want to go with the Mangler, use Predator instead to get your action efficiency without closing off the dial.

What is the big ship rule change? Hope this isn't a bad spot to ask.

If a Big Ship is reduced to 50% health or lower, it contributes half its cost to MoV. 100% cost is still at destruction.

so I played IG B and Boba a lot now, and have pretty much ended up with the exact same config as Sable. Vi and advanced sensors and HLC on ig, proton bomb and tactician on boba.

Played 3 TLT , 1 B last night and managed to win (modified) due to their maneuveability. Still struggles taking down that 32 points of health but most things will anyway

The proton bomb has such a psychological effect on people!. As long as you fly well you can really use it to force them into the path of IG 88

hi all,

this list is going well for me but i have become converted to glitterstims instead of the proton as sable suggested. I'm tweaking the list and id like some opinions.

i currently have seismic bomb but tempted by flechette cannon.

My thinking:

At range 2 when using tactician theres the potential of double stress. It also gives me more options to control at different ranges

The negatives are that it may not even hit and a waste of a shot (but given boba finds it hard to hit at range 2-3 anyway does that matter?).

I'm also losing the seismic bomb which is handy to get an easy damage done- but good players will stay out of the way anyway and without it being a proton bomb its only a big deal if someone is on 1 hull

Any thoughts?

There is no potential for double stress. Flechette Cannon only deals stress on a hit if the target is not already stressed. Tactician and Flechette Cannon cannot function together to double stress an opponent, as Tactician triggers first.

You have it backward there. Tactician is after an attack is performed, so if you hit with Flechette at Range 2, you can absolutely double stress them. Seems like a waste of red attack dice though.
