Spending Triumph when....

By RebelDave, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So this is probably something that has come up before... but i cant find it.

Unless I have missed it in the books.. how do YOU rule a Triumph when;

Initiative Rolls.

and

Medical Checks that are not aimed at Critical Hits.

So far, I have allowed the Triumph to head one additional Wound when on a Medical Check.

Would it be fair to allow it to heal a Critical when the check is not targeted at a Crit?

(I know it can heal an ADDITIONAL Crit, when you are healing Crits, presumably its a 'free' one and you would just heal the hardest crit going?)

Cheers

In initiative rolls I personally let that player get priority so they automatically go to the top of the queue, if more than one person rolls 1 triumph I just let them both go to the top and decide amongst themselves who goes first.

For medical checks I let the triumph do 3 health instead of the normal 1.

For some reason I'm thinking I read something about an immediate free maneuver before the encounter begins. Maybe that's a talent or something, but if not, that's one way to do things.

For initiative, I use a combination of the two rules above. They can either spend the triumph for a free maneuver prior to combat (usually used to aim, move, or draw a weapon), or I allow them to go first. The second option is a house rule.

I use the immediate free maneuver for initiative, and when it comes to the medical rolls, I tend to let the triumphs reduce the amount of time that has to pass between when another medical roll can be made, or heal a few extra wounds if it's not aimed at fixing crits.

Vigilance gets a free maneuver, Cool is allowed to heal +3 Strain on a Triumph. No rule says thou shalt do this and nothing else though.

I think either idea or both is perfectly fine on a Med check.

I rule pretty much the same as everyone above. Extra maneuver on initiative triumph (Though I may implement the top of the list rule too), and strain healing with medical checks.

Sometimes with medical aid, I'll apply the triumph to give the recipient a blue die for a turn or two in combat, sort like a (much) lesser version of the stim pack application Doctor talent.

Players already decide among themselves how goes first though...

The table of how to spend advantages and triumphs lists a Free maneuver on 2 advantages or a Triumph but it still counts against your two maneuvers for the round.

Never seen anything that would allow you to get a free maneuver before the round begins?

RAW, you get a free maneuver before the round starts. But I’d have to look up exactly where that is mentioned.

ECRB p 119 says they can get a free man. on a Triumph on a Vigilance check for initiative. The Cool skill does not say they can.

I myself, do allow one free immediate maneuver on aTriumph for any initiative check. These do not count towards the players limit of 2 on their turn, as they happen at the very start of the round, before the first Initiative Slot.

Page 200 ECRB has more info on maneuver limitations and maneuvers outside a characters turn.
