Delta-7 Aethersprite-class light interceptor aka Jedi Starfighter suggestion

By Vector, in X-Wing

A starfighter I would like to suggest as a future expansion is the Delta-7 Aethersprite-class light interceptor, also known as the Jedi Starfighter.

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Delta-7_Aethersprite-class_light_interceptor

The fighter first appeared in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones piloted by Obi-Wan Kenobi which he used to pursue Jango Fett with to Geonosis.

During the Galactic Civil War which the X-Wing Miniatures Game is set, Obi-Wan's Jedi Starfighter was later found by Wedge Antilles after crash landing on the planet and then piloted by him. He used it to destroy Imperial Forces in space before finding the ship's hyperdrive ring and presumably piloting it back to the Rebel Alliance.

Edit: Just to clarify, I'm not suggesting for a Clone Wars era expansion, just for the Delta-7 possibly as a Rebel Alliance expansion.

No going to happen.

Everyone hates the prequels (although the space combat in the prequels was arguably the only thing about them that wasn't utterly terrible) and FFG have already stated that XWM is set in the Galactic Civil War period and onwards.

I wouldn't be averse to a standalone Clone Wars version of the game as some of the ships were pretty sweet (General Grievous starfighter and the BTL-B Republic Y-Wing for example) - but I can't see it having the legs of XWM

While I'm not a fan of the prequels myself, I'm sure it's an exaggeration to state "Everyone hates the prequels." I'm sure there are fans.

More to the point, I suspect there are fans of The Clone Wars series.

I personally wouldn't mind a Clone Wars expansion for XWM -- I'm sure about four-six good fighters on each side could be added to create two viable factions for Old Republic and Separatists.

But I suspect it will never happen.

Welcome to the intertubes where the the hyperbolebeasts run wild and free :)

Let me just stop you right there. You do not speak for everyone.

However, I agree that Prequel ships dont belong here. Honestly, I don't really think TFA ones do, either.

I wasn't suggesting a Clone Wars era expansion or set, just for the Delta-7 possibly as a possible Rebel Alliance expansion. As I mentioned, Wedge piloted one during the Galactic Civil War which is why I think it would be great to have one.

personally, I'd be down

I can't stand the prequels (movies) from a story telling perspective because the basic narrative was so horribly botched by random digressions (including everybody's favorite: jarjar <_< ) but that means diddly-squat for the ships involved in the movie

they'd look nice (because the ******* K-wing looks stunning, so anything is possible) and they'd play nice because they'd be designed for this wonderful game of ours

I believe the only negative (and probably the real reason why we're not seeing prequel ships, none of that 'civil-war-only' era bull) is because it attaches X-wing miniatures to what is considered to be a rather dark chapter of the overall franchise

With Lucas gone, no doubt anyone with any control over Star Wars IP wants to get as far the hell away from Episodes 1-3 as they can :P

that scene of Jango chasing Obi, showering him in really powerful-sounding lasers and yet somehow never killing that little pinprick of a ship baffled me for years

and then I saw Luke's ability in X-wing miniatures for the first time. Puzzled, I tried to think of what Luke did to merit changing focus --> evade. Then I remembered A New Hope and Vader taking forever to lock on Luke because "the force is strong with this one."

And who told Luke to let go; use the force? Old ******* Ben Kenobi

So, what apparently does the light side of the force do in X-wing miniatures? It cheats hard on green dice

hence, Obi's proposed ability :P

still a bit broken due to "let's just guarantee 3-4 evades every turn", BUT my setup also has the Firespray at 4 X so idk

The prequel ships will probably never be in the game because we would need 2 extra factions.

If the sequel trilogy wasn't "at the gates", it would be possible... but with the Episodes VII, VIII and IX, we will have enough ships for the next 5 years of X-Wing Miniatures Game. Remember, these guys earn more money selling toys/IP products that movie tickets, so there will be tons of new ships.

Talking about the next 5 years, I suppose (and hope) the game will grow into some alternative modes until there to keep alive (like Cooperative Campaign settings).

PS: answering the OP's, no, it wouldn't be nice to have only 1 ship of the prequels released in the actual model.

Did you make that account just to troll about the prequels?

I think it would be great and I think there is a good possibility of it happening too. The VCX-100 and TAP are coming out, so there is an overlap in timelines there and an opening for expansion. Plus, with the new canon having TIE's, A's and B's in the Rebels era...just consider it a proto TIE with a Space Wizard inside.

I don't forsee any possibilities being left on the table anymore with the success of this game, all Star Wars is open now it seems. My preference would be the Actis class though, 'cause they look soooo good flying next to my VCX (all WIP).

The Obi-wan v. Slave 1 fight is my favorite scene from the prequels (minus the derpy dialogue in the cockpit of the Slave 1).

Based on his "Flying is for droids" remarks, I'd make Obi-Wan PS 6. And he needs a droid that grants an evade ability to "Jettison the spare parts".

Jango -- curse him for ruining my Fett backstory fantasies -- I'd put at PS 9, and I like his 4 Attack. But he needs an ability that works solo -- he doesn't work with allies.

Plus give him a Baby Fett crew card, with the ability of "Once per round, when attacking, make a derpy comment and roll an additional attack die. The target suffers any [hit] or [crit] result rolled; however a [hit] result rolled cancels all other dice results."

Of course other prequel era ships could be added in the future, but if they were suited for any of the current factions in the game is the question.

For the Delta-7, my reasoning is because the Alliance had one which would make sense for it to be a Rebel ship in the game.

The Belbullab-22 is another ship that was still around during the time of the Galactic Civil War, used by both privateers and members of the Alliance and Empire. If it were to be added, possibly as a Scum and Villainy ship.

He actually does work with allies quite a bit - see Zam/etc.

It's not Luke! It's R2-D2. Vader's doesn't miss. He purposefully shot R2-D2. As his former owner and the person whom R2 chauffeured around the longest, Vader knew who the real danger was.

Clone Wars Subfactions are pretty much a lock now that Subfactions have been used. People will complain about some of the choices FFG makes when they determine which ship goes where, can't please everyone but by continuing to offer consumers high quality products that they enjoy and allowing them to self select what they buy they keep

Doing right by us, the STAR WARS fans and not the little pockets of dissenters.

Oh. And I'd really like to see the ETA-2 in 2 paint schemes. One prequel hello the other like so:

I have the old wotc figure. Still looking for a painter.

Subfactions are pretty much just there to accommodate TFA stuff, there's absolutely no good way to integrate the ships as sub-factions.

Also imps would get republic ships not rebels as there is a Canon source in tarkin for this and it also shows rebels using separatist ships.

This would upset the rebel players that want the arc but there's no logical reason for the empire that just defeated the separatists to then turn around and use their ships.

No one really wants to play the droid forces all people bang on about is the banana and the arc.

And most of the players are OT fans who wouldn't touch prequels stuff anyway making it likely to just sit on shelves.

Speak for yourself~!

I would love to fly a real swarm. 20 droid swarm sounds brilliant. Well, I see like 4 on a large base together or armada style Starfighter swarms for those little buggers.

I see the pilots having way more faction problems than the ships. Ship factions are pretty clear. Pilots not so much. And I'd be ok with that too.
