Facing IG's and a thanks

By Lyconnus, in X-Wing

In a previous thread I posted lamenting about how the IG's are op etc. Playing today (As I stated I'd update with a report on how I did against my usual opponent who flies them. I encountered what I consider my best game against them.)

I still lost.

That part I don't give two craps about.

What I do care about is today, for the first time as both a TO and the store judge.

I played and just enjoyed the game. (We gave away a new core starter btw to our 1st place winner.) So anyway I followed some of the advice on this forum and with the help of stressbot and the POElice (Shop name for Poe Dameron.) with Wedge and a generic X I bloodied the IG's killing one and dropping another down to two hull. I just want to say thanks to the folks that helped and initiated dialogue with me in order to help me improve. I consider it a Pyrrhic victory as I may not have beat them. I did put myself one step closer on the path to it though and am enjoying the game again. So again thanks for helping me pick myself up, dust myself off, and keep me playing one of the best tabletop games in recent years.

Great post!

I'm glad we helped a little and that your not going to hang up your helmet.

As with all things it takes a littler perspective and in my case patience Hobo. I was too quick to jump the gun and fight where he was comfortable. Not where I was.

Well Dual IGs did take a big hit now that a half dead ship gives half its points. So unless he tables you it's pretty difficult to win for him.

Board edges and asteroid fields both hamper that sloop and so make ig's predictable, once you learn to predict their movement they really Arnt that tricky just takes practice :)

Suck 'em into the asteroids and kill 'em where they have a hard time maneuvering.

In spite of AT, I defeated a Brobot list this week using Horton and Dutch with TLTs. Who bothers to fly Y-wing aces? I do!

I just got totaly wrecked by Sensor Jammer IGs while flying a 4 TLT variant. I would assume they will remain part of the meta despite the mov changes.

I agree with this but luckily slotting in the jammers means no FCS or Sensors and mosre points spent on defense overall. That said range3/out of arc becomes really obnoxious with a free modification to they attackers red dice and the defending IG's green dice. 6 points each and a slot usually reaerved for offense means they will be a different beast from their current iteration.

I agree. I have no fear at all to face that version if I have just one Conner Net in my list.

I'm not sure you are using the term Pyrrhic victory correctly. A Pyrrhic victory is a victory that isn't worth the cost paid to win. You are describing a loss, that was well worth the cost in the knowledge gained....

IGs will usually have a great matchup or a terrible matchup. I haven't seen many neutral matchups for them.

Okay what's that called then? If not Pyrrhic victory, maybe... Orgasmic loss? You know he lost and still was happy...

I think the actual term for that is a Good Game. :)

Yeah you can lose and still of had a fun game.

Some of the best games go right down to the wire.

POElice XD. That's a good one.

IG-GG?

The term you're looking for 'Moral Victory', I think :)

Wait. This is a positive OP with no mention of MOV, TLT, or anything that is 'broken'. SMH, what if this spreads and all threads head in this direction? Think of all of the displaced trolls.

Seriously, glad to hear you not only got to play as TO, but had a good time doing it. AND are making progress towards catching your white whale.

Why are IGs considered OP? Most of the time they've died when I've used/faced them. Is there some secret I don't know about? :)

Yes.

:P

Because they usually either win big or lose big, and people take it personally when they're on the receiving end of the former.
