Anybody else noticed that Red Squadron and Blue Squadron are the first that are not limited to one ship type?

Is this a hint of a future Squadron card giving particular squadrons a special ability?

Oh, OK, I'll elaborate a bit. I'll be surprised if the squadron designations weren't dictated by Disney and/or handcuffed by what the squadrons are called in the new movie. Doesn't mean that at some point in the future that FFG won't use the shared designation for something, but I highly doubt they actively named the new T-70s "Blue Squadron" with that in mind, not least because the TIEfoos don't re-use existing squadrons.

Well right now Red Squadron is still X-wings although now one is the T-70 and the other is the T-65. Blue Squadron of course was B-wings as they were designated in Return of the Jedi however with the new X-wing getting a blue paint job they are going to be a part of blue squadron as well.

However this is nothing that new, rebels used mostly colors to designate their squadrons and for the most part squadrons were single type ship that is not always the case. As for Imperials greek letters were mostly used with their squadrons not by any of the movies but mostly by the PC games X-wing and TIE Fighter.

So we will likely see more Rainbow from the Rebels and more Greek from the Imperials. Will there be some crossover, maybe maybe not.

In X wing it realm doesn't matter because as far as the rules are concerned blue squadron novice and blue squadron pilot could be as different as apples and orange squadron pilots.
