Tetran Cowall with Wired?

By Okapi, in X-Wing

Could this be a worthwhile combo? Should be very flexible and unpredictable, and here is a cheap EPT that lets him boost offence and defence while doing red moves. Reasonably cheap too, at 27 points with Autothrusters.

Maybe fly him alongside a ship with an Intelligence Agent? Might even consider a Sigma with IA and a Particle Accelerator, could be a hideously irritating pair of hard hitting, flexible blockers.

It's a cheaper alternative to SoT, so maybe. Not sure he'll be stressed enough to get the best use out of it, but those K-turns are fun.

Soon of Tir?

When he's not stressed he can just focus. My impression is that since he can do those crazy moves and change them up on the spot, he's less in need of repositional actions than other Interceptor pilots, and therefore needs fewer actions. The downside is that those moves are red, hence Wired, to give him an offensive and defensive bonus while doing it. Predator and Lone Wolf works too, of course, but they are more expensive/situational/only offensive.

His nearest competitors are probably Alozen and Phennir. Hey, throw in Dark Curse, give Alozen Predator, and there's your squad.

Only problem with TInterceptors is that anyone with an EPT slot basically has PTL stapled to it.

That's precisely my point, Cowall (along with Phennir) might be the exception.

Yeah because of Cowall's ability, PTL doesn't work too well. Which meant he was hardly ever taken.

And before these new EPTs (especially Wired) nothing really fit with him as an Interceptor AND his ability. Wired is now one of his best bets as a) he can K-turn all day and still use it and b) it isn't one-use (like Adrenaline Rush, which was also a good choice on him)

If Lt. Lorrir only had an EPT slot.. he would be in every frakkin game.

Or Kir Konos. With PTL and auto thrusters, he would be a monster at range 3.

I would love to see a Squint title that duplicates PTL, just to see some lesser Squints see play time.

I strongly suspect that at Zero points Alpha Interceptors are suddenly viable. I think making Alphas pay 3 points for that title would be too much.

I also suspect that Soontir + PushTheTitle + autothrusters can find an EPT that makes him far too powerful. More powerful than just taking AT + Hull? Mayhaps.

However, the obvious solution "Square Root of the Pilot Skill value (rounded down to the nearest whole number)" feels both fair and overly complicated.

But that'd make them almost the same as A-Wings in possibilities, it's the individuality of the ships that is one of the great things about this game. The differences are more than cosmetic.

The problem isn't just PtL, it's their pilot skill. How often do you see Sabers on the table? Unless you know the board state it just doesn't work. Sometimes I wish the game had a separate action phase, to make low PS arc dodgers viable. Move Alpha, move Chewbacca, Alpha takes a barrel roll action, Chewbacca takes an evade action. Still advantage to high PS pilots, but less of an advantage than there is now.

I'd rather have you set the action during the planning phase, lock in the dial, choose your action. Then during activation show what happens.
