Fatigue and Movement Points

By thiagolbahia, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hi guys,

So in a map a player was out of movement points. He wanted to go through a water space.

So can he spend 2 fatigue to cross it, since it takes 2 moment points? Or each fatigue is one point and u can't cumulate them in a 2 point combo?

Thanks!

You do not suffer a fatigue to spend a MP. You suffer a fatigue to GAIN a MP, and then you can spend it. So, a hero can suffer as many fatigue as he likes (up to his stamina) to gain that many MP. He can only do this during his turn, and even then, he cannot do it during an action (unless that action is a move action.) He also cannot do it in response to an OL card (he can't suffer a fatigue to gain a MP after you play Pit Trap so that he doesn't get stunned.)

When heroes gain MP from any source, they can spend them during the same time window I just outlined. During the turn, but not interrupting other things (except move actions, which are made to be interrupted.)

At the end of a hero's turn (or if he becomes immobilized or otherwise is instructed to 'end his move action'), the number of MP he has available drops to zero. If it is not a his turn, any MP a figure gets have to be spent immediately upon receiving them, or they disappear.

Short answer: yes, he can.

Yes he can spend 2 fatigue to cross as long as he has the stamina for it

What does the sentence "such as if he suffered fatigue to move" on pit trap card means?

A hero spend 4 fatigue to earn 4 MP's. After using 3 of these MP's to move, the OL declares a pit trap card. That one MP left counts to avoid getting stunned? I ask this because the wording on card explicitly says "such as if he suffered fatigue to move". A MP earned by suffering fatigue isn't eligible to be spent to fulfill pit trap requirements?

I always thought the heroes could build a pool of movement points, but this ruling on pit trap got me confused. Even with the errata the concept "(...) suffered fatigue to move" brings the question about the pool of MP's validity. This leave me with some gaps in the movement rules:

  • Does it means you can't store MP's earned by suffering fatigue before start moving?
  • You have to spend the MP's right away after you suffered fatigue to earn them? On the example above about the water spaces, you have to suffer 2 fatigue to enter a water space right away?

On the other hand:

  • you can suffer fatigue (up to the hero stamina) to earn MP's, creating a pool of MP. After, you can choose to spend those MP's any way you like. If that hero enters an empty space, and at this time the OL plays a pit trap, if the hero still has 1 MP point left earned by suffering fatigue, can the hero lose this MP avoiding getting stunned?
  • Do you agree with me, in this case, the wording on pit trap is poor, because the intent of the wording into parenthesis was meant to be " such as if he moved to an empty space emptying out his pool of movement points"?

Thank you in advance.

It's poor wording on the card. It's giving an example scenario where a hero might have spent his only movement point. Over-explanation is a common problem in the earliest material for this game- you can see it in the description for some abilities, as well as some of the shadow rune quest rules.

The only time movement points are "forced" to be spent immediately or lost is when they are gained outside of your turn.
