The FO provides a very needed staple for imperials in the 15 - 21 point category. On the lower end you are competing with Tie/LN and on the higher end you are begin to compete with interceptors and the advanced. It will be interesting to see what the TAP brings to the table that will make it unique from the FO in this cost band. Having the option to switch out Mauler Mithel/Backstabber for the tankier FO allows us Imperials more control to local meta conditions.
Welcome to your new /fo! it shoots marshmellows!
Of course. Never as a support ship, though, because the abilities are not appealing at all. Pull stress? Maybe sometimes good, but you definitly don't want that stress on your shuttle or you won't ever turn. There also is Wingman for that. Pull target locks? Situational at best, since target lock rarely is the right action in the first place. If you pay that much for that ability I might also just focus Kagi anyways. Give out target locks? Allright-ish, but never really game changing. I sometimes would like to try a Jendon lead TIE Bomber squad, but it just seems so mediocre.
The one and only reason why the shuttle is used is its fantastic cost-stats ratio. For 21 points you outvalue the B-Wing easily and still have
almostthe same upgrade slots. The dial is a challenge of course, meaning Lambda spam most of the time isn't the best idea, but the base stats are more than rock solid. Should one take the uniques it would be for their PS value, not the ability.Epic is a different story, Kagi can be worth his money when he protects a Raider from modified CR-90 attacks.
I have never seen anyone play anything besides a plain OGP or the doomshuttle. The unique lambda pilot abilities have too many constraints/too high a cost to make them useful (outside of Kagi in epic) and they have no EPT. Combined with the new large ship MOV all of the named lambda pilots have been pushed further into obscurity. What is the benefit of a high PS shuttle pilot? Target lock? It only makes them prone to being blocked and they can't reposition without even more points being pumped into upgrades, which is even more painful because of the new ruling.
The cow may have jumped over the moon but that doesn't count for crap in a dogfight.
I do however agree that it doesnt make much sense to take any named pilot in that squad. If you were hellbent on spending more on the shuttle i would give it Sensor Jammer or EU. But i think Vader gets more mileage out of those 4 points!

You would fly swarm until they destroy Howlrunner or Epsilon Leader, after that you could go try and play them alike to A-Wings, Cat and Mouse between the asteroids.
With Focus Evade pretty much every turn, a Howlrunner reroll and pretty much no limitations to subsequent maneuvers, this should be quite durable. The firepower should be below a standard swarm, but a bit more precise as you get more actions.
I don't quite get what the OP means with lowest attack power. What's that? I mean you have similar attack power to nearly all 2 attack ships. With the option of Howlrunner being probably the best buff in the game to 2 attack ships!
Granted some of them have ordnance or cannon options, but they pay a steep price for them too. ans ordnance is still very underwhelming as we all know.
I just saw it in action today. It is a very interesting squad. It wasn't played in an ideal format, but it has some fascinating play potential. Tanking up, or mass barrel rolling. Along with not having to relay on their green moves.
Have you ever even flown a shuttle?I'd be fine with FOs only being a support ship, the Empire kind of doesn't have that (Lambda doesn't count, its abilities are crap). The none support aces seem fun, though. Kind of in a Dark Curse way.
To be fair it's not really a support ship (fleet officer and TL passing aside). I love flying the hipposhuttlebus but if you're using it as a support ship you are doing it wrong.

The Emperor disagrees with your assesments.
****! I tend to overlook him, sice I don't plan to buy a Raider anytime soon. The Palpmobil deseves the title as one of the strongest support ships, totaly agree with you.
Having the native TL action has been a godsend. You can now spend rounds setting up TL + F rather than ALWAYS being forced to rely on Focus for damage. Good ways to do this...
1. Move in a path to block, take a TL. Save it for a good shot.
2. Take a range 3 shot, roll 2 blanks, save the TL for next round with F.
3. Take a TL, roll 2 natural hits, use TL next round instead of having a wasted focus action.
4. Need to disengage with a Tie to setup next round? Take a TL and use it when that Tie gets back into the fight instead of wasting an action.
Overall, TL makes the ship just that much more action efficient! It's way more fun and rewarding.
Because I tell ya, I HATE only having Focus for offense. Running Soontir + PTL + AT + SD is very annoying when I am on the flank and wishing I could have reliable attacks. The TIE FO doesn't have that problem.
TL is only better than focus when you have 3 or more attacks, on two attacks its the same chance to modify your dice.
TL can't modify your defence die so if your shooting last there's a very real chance you'll blow before using that TL.
It can't fire missiles and focus is more flexible so TL is pretty much worthless outside of range one where you'll be shot first and most likely die as you roll two focus and a blank and really wish you'd focused.
Tl is also better if you don't have a shot and are not getting shot
Saying Omega Ace doesn't get any defensive actions on the turn he flips out on crits isnt necessarily true - comm relay can give him an evade token in reserve...

Yub. And make him 26 points. Not for me thank you...
I don't want to come off as overly salty or anything, but i kind of just want to say that from my point of view(everyone at my FLGS plays nothing but the meta Imperials, so after Wave 4 it was all Phantoms which all disappeared after the Phantom debuff, after Imperial Aces it was all Interceptors, and now after Raider it's all Advanceds to the point that literally 50% of the people at our last store tournament were using at least 2 TIE Advanceds, and now the Emperor is making the rounds in our games as well), Imperials not getting another really great, blow-the-enemy-out-of-the-water good ship is not a bad thing. it's really great for me. It's one less powerful ship i need to worry about.
uh oh
poor guy hasn't seen Omega Leader
Omega Leader sounds great in theory, but nobody at my store has actually used them well enough to get me worried. Compared to Vader/Eclipse/Soontir lists, anything with Omega Leader is a joke.
A 24 point joke that invalidates all your offensive and defensive mods isn't that funny ![]()
In fact, soonts Vader & omega are only 96 points ![]()
Oh wait when you said Omega Leader i was really thinking Omega Ace since i've actually played against Omega Ace(which is, like i said, a joke)
Yeah i'm not too excited at the prospect of fighting Omega Leader. I can merely hope that the T-70 expansion has something even better. Cause let's be real, Rebels could use something to fight against the current Imperial meta.
I suspect the TIE/fo expansion will come with at least one more desirable pilot in addition to Omega Leader. Look at "Howlrunner" and "Backstabber"....both came from the original TIE Fighter expansion.

My feelings exactly at that price point your against named advanced pilots that do more damage and absorb more to boot.

You mean the one with the Falcons, Dashs, Corans, y stress or TLTs, BBBBZ, Hawks, and Brobots? That IMPERIAL meta?

I'm not quite aware i specified anything but Imperial. If you read my posts, i went into detail about how at my FLGS, Imperial meta IS the meta.
But you could be a snarky little ****, too. That's not annoying and insulting at all, and really makes me like you as a person.
As an official retort, however: For those of us that don't fly fatties and turrets because they're boring and not fun to fly at all, yes. That IMPERIAL meta. For those of us that can't afford 4 B-Wings or 2 IG-2000s(which are basically fatties), yes. That IMPERIAL meta.
I'm not against spending money on expansions, but there are squads that i simply just do not want to fly. Big ships like the Falcon and the Outrider just bore me to death. Turrets aren't as bad, but i can't make a squad out of nothing but TLTs and stuff because after having a chance to play a TLT squad, it was like going into the game menu and changing the difficulty to Easy mode. No hard feelings towards anyone that plays TLTs competitively, but it's just not for me. So in a FLGS where 50% of our latest tournaments after Raider have been TIE Advanceds, namely Vader and Eclipse, with a dash of Soontir and Emperor thrown in, suffice to say my options are extremely limited. So excuse me for not wanting another incredibly good Imperial ship tossed into the mix, excuse me for breathing a sigh of relief when i heard our local champions talking about how underwhelming the FO is for them.
Man, i said i didnt want to come off as too salty but you wrung the salt out of me.

There is something those "Imperial Aces" detest: Conner Net laying K-Wings with Advanced SLAM! A bit hard to integrate into your list because they are pricey, but totally worth it when that Soontir is stranded without actions after his obvious 2-turn, ionized for the next turn. Left to be obliterated by the rest of your list. As I said, I have a hard time putting that into the context of a good squad, though, so I will open another thread to discuss that if there isn't one already.

These two have been putting my oppenents into hysterics. As long as I fly formation I can disregard red moves and Kturn every go if I like. Last game I played I bounced around Nduru so much that he never got a clean shot. When he did the 4 greens made for very slippery targets.
I dont fly swarms so I find the /FOs the be very worthwhile ships.

I think Epsilon Leader will buff a PtL Howlrunner nicely, making Howlrunner able to focus and evade turtle every round, and letting the whole swarm k-turn without stress.
