You'd be wasting your money as that would in no way be a legal use able tool.
Raider Breakdown!!!
Don't think people would care.
I mean we are talking about a measuring tool being made longer then it is legal for it to be, I'm unsure why that be remotely passable in anyone's book.
If they make a upgrade that allows a Squadron to move twice are you going to custom make a range 10 ruler?

But everyone would appreciate that your speed 2 maneuver tool for your VSD's doesn't knock over half the fighters and bumps other ships when you go to use it. It may not be technically legal, but it is more of a convenience thing.
Except that tool is not longer then it can legally be. Don't you see the difference?
If you tack an extra section on that maneuver tool you now are able to pre-measure distances and maneuvers you are normally not able to measure. By contrast, shortening the template does not in anyway allow you to make measurements you normally wouldn't be able to.

Okay, I see, so maybe 10% of the people he would play against would care.

Looked in the LtP book, nothing there. Looked in the Tournament Rules under Component Modification and there is nothing there.

Both page 3 and 4 of the L2P depict the provided range ruler and the proper assembly of it. I mean is this going to be Stacking Ships 2.0 with you? While I'm sure some of your opponents wouldn't care you can't in anyway believe that a lengthen maneuver tool could somehow be seen as legal.
Edited by ScottieATFHmmmmmm, not breaking the triangulation rule. . . Not sure what's wrong with the premeasure since we are allowed to do that anywaysExcept that tool is not longer then it can legally be. Don't you see the difference?

Theres a lot of things people do in any wargame that technically is illegal, but because it doesnt impact the game other than convenience nobody cares.
In 40k when i play orks i measure out one ork then move the rest quickly without measuring. Is it illegal? Technically yes. Is anybody that isnt a rule-shark that tries to DQ you for the dumbest things going to care because it dramatically speeds the game up? Nope. Literally only had 1 person complain about me doing that, and he was just that kind of person that tries to get the TO of a tournament to get rid of you because of an extremely dumb/mild rule infringement.
Everyone else loves it when i do that because then they dont spend 3-4hrs facing me lol.
looks like the Raider Breakdown has broken down

Anyway, once again of track. I am curious to see if Quad Lasers will help keep enemy fighters away from my Victory class SDs. At least they wont get away with free damage.
I see what you did therelooks like the Raider Breakdown has broken down

Screed as Admiral with ACMs or Rapid Reload and Ordnance Experts on a Gladiator is whats really scaring me.
Edited by CrawfskeezenSo has anyone else noticed you can equip the Raider with Tractor Beams? Lore-wise, this isn't possible with a small ship because of the energy/space requirements to operate a tractor beam. Plus, tractor beams grab things smaller (you can grab larger, but it's not advised). I think FFG kinda botched that upgrade because it's silly to have tractor beams on a corvette.
Now for gameplay, you can only use it against the CR90, which might be good? Would be nice to grab that pesky gnat while it's flying past your ISD. Otherwise, it's not very useful.
That's the limiting factor there... Only good against Neb-Bs and CR-90s at this point in time.
But I guess that's also part and parcel of the Offensive Retrofit slot. Since you'd have to throw in more reactors.
I look away from this thread for two days, guys. Two days, and it's run amok! >_>
The main thing I'm seeing the Raider for is as a support vehicle. Originally, I wanted it to be a torpedo boat that could come out of nowhere and hit a ship with a deadly blow. But that's not its purpose. Sure, the only ships it could go toe-to-toe with one on one would be the Neb-B or CR90, but the purpose of the ship isn't to go toe-to-toe. It's purpose is either two protect against bombers, or to kick a bigger ship in the shin so one of your big ships can take advantage of the opening.
As far as I see the Raider, it is another tool in the toolbox for the Imperial player, that broadens his would be tactical options, and will make it harder for the Rebel player to predict what he should focus on as a possible counter for what ever he might face. (likewise in reverse)
If Rebel player brings a lot of fighters.
Imperial player will bring a lot of Raiders as a counter
Rebel player realise his fighters is not very effective against a swarm of Raiders so he brings five Guppies instead.
Imperial player realise his Raider swarm is being made into mince meat by Guppies, so he brings three ISD instead to the fight.
Rebel player realise a combined arms approach. A mix of MC80 with fighters, CR90, Nebs, MC30 and Guppies in support is the most flexible way to deal with three ISD's or any other combo.
Imperial player realise the same and also brings a mix of Imperial ship types.
In other words its Rock, Paper, Scissor, Earth, Fire, Water, Wind etc... choose your combo ![]()
The nice thing about the Raider, I think, is that it can adjust its job very easily. Build a Raider-II with the Instigator title and Overload Impulse, and that's about all you need. If your opponent brings fighters, the Raider can tie them up and hit them while your Imps go to work. Alternatively, if your opponent brings no squadrons, you can have the Raider tag-team with one of your Imps, increasing their effectiveness.
It's sorta like playing rock-paper-scissors, and having both rock and scissors at the same time.
