It's official 8 raiders in 400 points

Behold the Beauty of the swarm.

Booooooriiiiing! :P

I would have 6 with Enhanced Launchers for 6 mini VSD Is at speed 4.

I'll see your 8 raiders and raise you 9 CR-90B's!

the rebs have been kicked under a bus, these things have speed and fire power.

Meanwhile, my MC80s are one-shotting two of them per turn...

These things have nothing on a CR90A! You'll never succeed with just them in a swarm, like people in X-wing COULD run a swarm of Z95's like you do with TIE fighters, but they don't.

Z-95 swarms are brutal especially Feedback swarms. I see raider swarms being a thing with Ozzel.

I agree. A swarmable ship needs to be fairly 'General Purpose'.

The Raider is designed to take on a very specific role. It's a rock-paper-scissors ship.

I disagree. The Raider can be VERY flexible in its Roles - especially when you've got a bunch of them... High-Speed Muggings with ACMs have served Gladiators well so far... You get 50% more ACMs this way, basically...

But that didn't come for, like, 3 more waves. And only works for an entirely different faction.

Space whales with Ackbar and gunnery teams will shoot these things like turkeys!

You can take Ackbar and four AFIIBs, each with gunnery teams and advanced projectors, for 378 (leaving 22 points for flavor).

You can take eight Raider Is, but only seven of them can take Ordnance Experts (leaving exactly 20 points for Ozzel). Seven Raider Is with ACMs run 357 (before commander), but if you have Ordnance Experts + ACMs, that only leaves room for six (at 55 points per ship, seven Raiders is 5 points too many), unless someone drops ACMs (or two Raiders drop Ordnance Experts). Six will run you 330, leaving 70 points for upgrades to taste, plus your commander, so Vader is in play if you want to reroll with reckless abandon.

With that in mind, you can run eight raiders, but I doubt they'll dent more than a couple of the whales. If you run seven, your odds improve, but I'm not sure even Ordinance Experts + ACMs will be enough to chew through four AFIIs and all their shields. Even with Vader's reroll, it'll be a tall order for six raiders.

On the flip side, the Empire can now have up to eight activations in a single game. This is awesome. Raider-Corvette spam battle anyone?

*Chaos ensues*

I have a feeling the MC30c will give the rebels a big kick in firepower.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Almost positive that Raider swarms will just die horribly. Too fragile, and they won't have the punch to kill multiple medium/large ships before suffering too much attrition.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Someone should record one of these. At 17 activations, this is like... a 4 hour match, right?

Anyone taking odds for the over/under of unintentional collisions in round 3? 8.5?

They do die to any heavy fire with an accuracy just like the CR90

I feel that raiders will be fillers, like the z95 is in some x-wing rebel list. Really good with 2-3, and using the titles/new crew. But diluted with numbers.

I think the raider becomes the escort for your Rhymer ball (or it's post wave 2 equivalent). Much how you'll see a Esc Neb B running with two fighters for protection.

And possibly like a pawn piece for the game. Get in, do a little damage, die, and here's your main course of ISD's.

HAHA 17 ships we must try this now.

If they have surrounded you, you're already dead.

This was brought up in another thread, but I might as well post it here because that's what this thread is about.

The reason why I said the CR90 might best the raider swarm is because of shooting then moving. The CR90A deals most of its damage at long range, then moves. The raider deals most of its damage at short range, then moves.

It relies on you being able to weather fire and move up behind someone, then activating before them to shoot. Then move in such a way that when they activate, shoot, move, they are forced to still be in close range of you.

Sure, a skilled player with a raider swarm facing a cr90a swarm could pull it off. But 2 players of equal skill using a Cr90a's vs Raiders will usually result in the CR90a's winning, because the Raider kinda handicaps you.

Plus have you met our friend General Rieekan or Mon Mothma? ;)  :P
