Charmer

By ArtanisNeravar, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I am working on making a Charmer. I'm going with Falleen, but I have a few questions and was hoping to get some input.

First: Is it worth it to raise Presence to 5? This might be affected by the second part.

Second: what do people think of these concepts

1. A charming assassin

Someone who talks his way into the room with his target, kills them with a high critical (vicious and lethal blows) and then talks his way back out

2.Charming Infiltrate

Think James Bond

I think a charming assassin with Presence 5 is going to be mostly charm and little assassination. Infiltration means deception or stealth which means cunning or agility. Don't do a 5 Presence. Either idea is fine otherwise.

For most things 4 should be more than enough for just about anything you'll see early game.

A characteristic of 5 is incredible, and also very Min/Max making you a very focused character. Also the long term experience cost is not worth it, you will be spending 50xp to get that 5, yet a dedication talent only costs 25xp itself. Your much better off to spread you XP wide, going for 4x3's or 1x4 and 2x3's.

A smiling assassin sounds fun, using charm to get close to the mark. You could go for a Melee or Ranged(Light) character too. It's a solid concept

4 is enough, and 3 lets you broaden your capabilities. If you're an assassin, you'll need either Agility or Brawn...or both if you want to be Stealthy and do your assassinating close up. And Cunning would be handy, for Skulduggery and Perception.

If you need those five dice, just buy 5 skill ranks as the game progresses.

Good points, would it be worth it to spend the xp to get a force rating then Makashi Dualist for the ability to use a shoto lightsaber with Presence?

Force User Assasin could be walking a fine line not falling to the Dark Side, I hope your a good role player with a helpful GM

You don't get a FR from a F&D spec unless that is your base career.

As far as I know you don't have to take morality when you take a force specialization.

Do you have to have a force rating to take a specialization from F&D? I thought I read that somewhere in the book but couldn't find it when I looked again.

If you mean spend xp to get Exile or Emergent to get the FR you're referring to, you don't get in jump

Correct I would take Emergent (or the EotE one) first

You're running up about 10 sessions worth of xp just in all these specs you're buying you realize?

You dont need a FR to buy the FaD trees, but the Makashi Dualist talent is a force talent, which does require a force rating. you would be best to start as the Makashi Dualist then pick up the Charmer Spec early on if thats the path you want to follow.

So long as you know. I dunno how accommodating your GM will be to giving you a lightsaber but otherwise it would make use of the stat.

he could go the Ancient Sword rout, making himself a Zoro character

Force Leap for the jumping and flipping. Charmer for that winning smile. Makashi Dullest for the ability to cut clothes without cutting the person wearing them...

Take Emergent, pick up Influence: Skills, and go with a 4 presence, 5 is overkill.

Naw, you could go the non-lightsaber, all melee route. The Duelist allows you to go either way (and occasionally Brawl).
