It occurred to me today that I was unclear whether Luke's special action melee attack stacked with his regular abilities.

i.e., the action's wording says, 'This [melee] attack gains pierce 3.'

So is this pierce 3 exploited instead of the regular pierce 1 ability, or in addition to it (to make pierce 4)?

And if I roll surge icons on the red and yellow melee attack, do I get to exploit Luke's surge abilities? Or do I not, on the grounds that those are his regular ranged fire abilities?

Luke does not have a regular pierce 1 ability.

He does have a +1 block, though...

And yes - he still gets to use his surge abilities.

Luke's Saber Strike ability is excellent...especially when he's got a Focus from Gideon or C3P0. He'll often get 2 or more surges on those dice, which will usually translate to +2 Damage AND Recover 2. That's a big swing, when you've got an automatic Pierce 3.

Luke does not have natural pierce 1.
