According to the insert that came in my edition HT has a forward arc but the auxiliary arc is 180 to the back of the ship facing behind.
But I've been told this isn't actually the case.
Can someone clarify for me.

the whole 180 is the front bit, primary arc included.
The way it's shaded in the insert is unfortunately not perfectly clear, but Panic is correct: it's the whole 180 degree front half of the base (primary arc in the middle, auxiliaries to either side). The shading on the base insert itself should be a bit easier to see.

We have seen this a few times now. Is there different versions of the rules insert out there or is it just missinterpretations? My copy do not say anything about a rear arc.

It's all about the diagram being confusing. The diagram is meant to point out the aux arcs only, so they have one color and the front arc/all non-arc spaces to the rear have another color. People look at it and think it's meant to show you all the places you can shoot, and since they start from knowing you can shoot straight ahead, assume that the "this-is-not-the-aux-arc" color is the "these-are-the-places-you-can-shoot" color.
Edited by digitalbuskerYeah from the diagram I've seen, it is showing (in black?) JUST the extra angles for the auxiliary arc. So the two extra parts at the side of the normal front arc.
The front arc and the entire back half of the base are shaded grey in the diagram to show what ISN'T the auxiliary arc.
It is a confusing diagram for the YV-666 and can be misconstrued to show the forward arc AND a 180 rear arc due to poor formatting for this instance. Even though I knew it created a full 180 forward arc I ended up pulling out my Slave I diagram to check the format against it. The Slave's auxiliary rear arc is depicted in the lighter colour as opposed to the standard colour which still depicts the forward arcs for all ships.
