I will let you know, as Hound's Tooth is in the mail!
Has FFG stepped up production quality concerning bases lately?
Well I picked up a hwk-290 (moldy crow) today and found the base pegs were a bit wobbly and not as firm of a fit than the ones from the TFA starter. They also seemed less smooth as well. The quality of the plastic for the maneuver dial was also a bit shoddy. But overall I found it to be workable. I think the contents of the new core set are a higher quality though from what i've seen.

I also picked up a second HWK-290 and noticed that the shades were different. It looked like the browns were duller on it while the whites were grayer almost like there was a different wash or base coat on the model.
I kinda think it is all rather random.
"All kind of random" equates to poor quality control.

Well if you remember from last year everything from Wave 5 and 6 was plagued by all sorts of logistical nightmares. FFG had to find a new manufacture the design team had changed and lets not forget about the docks strike. True only the first one would result in variance but that is the thing is that because of all of these changes variance was introduced, and changing the manufacture would result in a lot of variance. All things considered everything works for the most part.

Well FFG will replace your messed up stuff, except for the expensive Huge EPIC ships.

We vets remember a lot of the good and bad. Thus far it is WAYyyy more good, in my experience anyhow.

Today my second decimator arrived and, unlike my other deci/outrider and everybody elses wave 5 ships, this one fits nice and tight on its pegs! Wave 6 was pretty good as far as pegs but besides the khirax all my wave 7 ships were a bit loose as well
