Is it me or do the Podcast have a hard time to keep up?

By Marinealver, in X-Wing

So just heard the latest two podcasts, Scum and Villainy and Nova. For Nova it was most for the Nova Open however they only got to review the new core set and none of the episode 7 expansion packs. Scum and Villainy was the same.

Seems like they are behind by a week.

People have a hard time playing the game and also producing extra content for the game. Seeing as they aren't making money on it I'm betting they are just behind due to real life. That said...

I don't listen to them, I find they aren't that helpful, usually extremely biased, and most of the time get stuff wrong.

It's been an uncharacteristically crazy-busy month for news. Of course there's a bit of lag time. I'd much, much rather they take a bit of time to edit the podcasts and make them tighter, better listening experiences than try to rush stuff out to keep up with the discussion du jour.

X is stronger then Y, that upgrade is useless always use x (stealth vs hull comes up a lot), the meta is stale, blah blah blah. Basically like listening to forum posts. Which I get enough by reading.

I have to ask... what on earth can an X-Wing podcast be "biased" toward or against?

" Bounty hunters. We don't need their kind of scum." :D

I don't know how hard it is to do a podcast but if its anything like editing batreps I can tell you its very time consuming and sadly "real life" gets in the way making it hard to keep up to date.

I've got tournaments we filmed 6 months ago still awaiting time for us find to do commentary. :(

If you want, do your own podcast. I have been looking into doing one myself.

We record our show every other week, and then it takes a bit to edit, depending on schedules and other factors. It's not a super speedy process unfortunately.

So depending on when X-Wing news is released, we could seem super timely and we might not. Since if big news breaks while we're already editing the show, we won't get to address it until we next record.

It's not perfect, but consistency is something at least. :P

Behind by a week? Sounds like about the time it would take to read about and try out the new stuff, find a time that 3-5 people all have free and can get online together, record, edit, and post a podcast. Actually that wouldn't take a week - if it was me and my mates the podcast would be at least 2 months behind.

It's just a function of when FFG releases their updates. Typically, S&V records on Wednesdays, and NovaSR on Thursdays, so when FFG announced the new expansions last Friday, it was too late to make it into either podcast.

It's hard to find time to not just play enough games to be somewhat knowledgeable, but then we have to get together and record, edit and upload. Kessel Run is a blast to do, but it can be tricky with real life boring stuff.

I can only talk about us over at NOVA Squadron Radio, but I know for us there is a delay from when we record to when we release. It takes time to record, edit, and produce a show.

Sure, we could record one night and just toss it all together without editing, music, bumpers, and have it up a day later. However that is not the kind of show we want to produce. I really feel like our listeners are aware of the time and effort we put into the show and that it does take a little time to get them out there but they are worth it.

Honestly, there is no realistic way any one show/podcast could keep up to date every time a new release, news idea, FAQ comes out and have material out there as soon as hits. At least until the CNN of X-Wing comes out, then we will be up to date as news happens.

For us the NOVA Open sucked up a TON of time for us and we will back to recording every two weeks.

as said above -- for S&V, takes at least a week to get from initial recording to publication. used to be even longer before AntiGrapist stepped up to the plate.

Hujoe, you are cordially invited to the next S&V podcast to help us break out of our funk! :-) I was hoping the topic of Jedi Sex Cults would break out of the "upgrade X > Y, meta stale" theme, it seems we need to keep trying...

OK, you have to admit, the S&V podcast is totally biased in favor of The Great Mustachio.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

We're also all proud members of the Church of Engine, and at least some of us are undeniably biased against grapes.

Yeah just because some gamer nerd stood 10 feet from Paul H and when he finally noticed them he returned their nod and smile.... dat ain't some NERD-HERO-CRED qualifier Stuff.

:rolleyes::mellow::lol:

They think they are hot-shots on the cutting edge, but the truth is they are no better than we lowly "Casual Gamers". In fact I think that many of we "Casual Gamers' AKA: Wingers are just as serious as these people are.

I am certainly. While my tournament time is an absolute zero, my X-Wing & EPIC collection and my love for actual STAR WARS, and my Flight Path Rules Knowledge is WAY heavy, and prolly dwarfs these guys who are supposedly the "Cream Of The X-Wing Community'

Hel-Nahs... I ain't impressed by these ex-jocks circle-jerking any more... not at all.

Oh and screw dat S&V guy that said that SCUM Boba Fett is weak!

You Elitist SOB You!

:angry::D:lol:

Boy wouldn't I love to get dat guy on a table with SCUM BOBA, TALON, and a few Super SCUMMY Y-WINGS!!!

Speaking of NSR exclusively, the slight delay is worth it. It beats watching random commentary of X-Wing games that are only about that one specific game going on. I want to know the perspective of other people that look at the game differently. I do not always agree with some of their pilot choices or upgrades in certain lists, but I like to keep an open mind. The majority of the time, I fully agree. Some of them are just unknowns due to the newness of the ships/upgrades. It is also good to hear interviews with other good players after major events to get their perspective on the game.

Regardless of what is said in the X-Wing media, I believe it is fully worth looking into and experimenting with lists and upgrades in your own capacity to find out if certain combinations work for you. Just because a large group of other people may not run something with a certain upgrade does not mean you stop there. Use the media to get the brain juices flowing and use that to come up with your own ideas.

Yes, they have a hard time keeping up. And I really appreciate all the effort they put in to make them happen,

I don't get to play many games at the moment due to an outbreak of real life, so it's really great to listen to a new bunch of x wing talk during a commute to work.

A MASSIVE thank you to all of them for their hard work.

I'll be quite honest, I stopped listening to most after the 3rd episod, I always give things 3 tries but lost all interest. Like I said, most podcasts come down to listening to forums. If you are serious about the last part, I have even less interest.
