Dear FFG, just a few requests

By EastCoast, in X-Wing

Ah, you're worried about thematic stuff. Most of us really don't care about that. Your suggestion is excellent house rule territory, but for a diverse, competitive game it is definitely the wrong direction.

I'd really caution you on the "most of us" piece. I think there's an assumption that the majority of X-Wing players are part of the larger war gaming community. I'm a big Star Wars fan that saw a Tabletop episode and went "Holy ****! that looks awesome!" I think there's a lot more of us here than you may think.

I certainly appreciate your input from the competitive perspective. It's nice to see angles I don't normally consider.

Okay. Most of us here. There are of course some exceptions, but most people who visit an online forum are going to be more into the competetive side of things.

GUNBOAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They already have acrylic tokens. Go win them.

I appreciate the offer, but no thank you.

Doesn't matter. They very much have the same identity as far as we know. I don't care if Wedge is 100+ when he is able to fly side by side with freaking dead people!

But they were all alive at the same time at some point. Garvin can't fly with Poe, he was dead before Poe was born. Thematically you could fit Wedge in there, but only if every other turn was a red stop due to Wedge's enlarged prostate. Those rebel era pilots still alive would have to stop and pee... a lot.

Let's not get crazy and tear the fabric of time and space.

GUNBOAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!GUNBOAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nah... I want the Skipray before that XD

Actually, before that can we get a Kihraxz with this model instead?

khiraxz.jpg

Sadly too late for the Kihraxz but if they give us the Vaksai or Dunelizard i will literally throw my money at them...

I think out of all the Kihraxz models they picked the lamest one but if still looks great actually!

Especially with the X-wing getting the Integrated Astromech bump, I really feel the Kihraxz falls behind all other jousters in efficiency now. I think there is a possibility, although admittedly slim, that we get an alternative model for the Kihraxz in a future aces pack. Think it would be a smart move by FFG, so don't give up hope just yet!

I dont hope for an alternate model, but rather the Vaksai as i said.

Plus i don't know if the Kihraxz is really worse than the X now. You still can take five of them, or take non unique veterans, it has a better dial and also the Illicit slot. Still has a lot going for it.

Biggs was dead before the K-wing or E-wing saw the light of day, so it sounds like you are restricting yourself quite a bit by living by that mantra EastCoast... :( But, to each his own! ^_^

Fair enough. I do agree being able to take 5 of them and also the illicit slot is valuable. Just not sure if it is quite enough. Time will tell!

To me X-Wing can tear as much as it wants. It is a Star Wars all stars game independent of continuity. What if Vader fought the new movie guys? Himself with different allies? Who would win in direct combat, Xizor or IG-88? I have a lot of fun treating the game this way and it lets me experience its whole potential. Of course I won't denie that I very much enjoyed the Hoth campaign where we tried to be as movie accurate as possible, but thats not the only thing I will do.

I neglected the silly smiley after my post. :P I was just enjoying the humorous image of elderly Wedge with a walker built into the front of his X-Wing, with upgrade slots for fiber and dentures.

The K Wing and E Wing are non-canon abominations (and commit the further sin of being as ugly as... well, sin) and anyone using them deserves a stern look over the top of your glasses.

I got into this game for the Star Wars, not the competition. I don't care really what the rules look like, so long as the game always feels like Star Wars.

To that end, I don't mind overmuch playing What If scenarios. How would Poe fair against Wedge? What if Poe had to fly against Vader? Could the T70 perform the same feats its predecessor did? What if Luke had flown with BB-8 at Yavin?

But most of the time, I want to fly combat missions. Empire vs Rebels, First Order vs Resistance, and never the two shall meet.

The problem I have with the current set up is that even if I'm not in the mood for a What If game, if I really just want to blow up some rebel scum with my Imperials, if my opponent turns up with some Episode 7 stuff then I'm just out of luck.

In short, it feels less like Star Wars to me when I'm constantly running pilots against opponents from another era.

Now yes, we can always run Porkins and Biggs against ships or in missions that happened later, even though they died at Yavin. This is because some What Ifs are smaller than others. What if Biggs had survived is a smaller What If than what if Poe had to fly against Vader.

I think we're just going to implement a rough 'eras' system at my local.

One of the biggest things I would like to see is more pilots for ships that have only 4 or five pilots. The Y-wing in wave one, the yt-1300 and the fire spary in wave two for starters. And for ships that have more then one faction setting it up for both sides to get some pilots in the same pack would be great.

Let me just support the "Give us the Assault Gunboat" clique:

WE WANT THE ASSAULT GUNBOAT

Dear FFG, just a few requests

TIE Aggressor

TIE Oppressor

TIE Hunter

TIE Avenger

That is all.

My wish list, in order of want:

(1) Rogue Squadron expansion, with a T-65 fix, T-65 variants, and squadron mechanics.

(2) Rules for in atmosphere, so we can have T-16s, Snowspeeders, and Bespin Cloud Cars.

(3) Compatible ground element rules, so we can do the Battle of Hoth.

(4) Rebel Y-wings with EPTs

(5) Deluxe core set with all acrylic components

(6) Corran Horn in an X-wing

(7) More seats at Nationals and Worlds, and the tournament actually on the weekend

ftfy. There are many of us out there, more than you think.

I certainly don't care about the competitive side of things.

That said, I do hate losing all the time to friends who spend more money to get better upgrade cards. Even casual games aren't fun when you have very little chance of winning.
