Dear FFG, just a few requests

By EastCoast, in X-Wing

It is really nice to see you guys putting out some accessories. The colored bases are a start, but as a customer with two official play mats, I would also like to see some official acrylic templates and tokens.

I'd also like to request an X-Wing rebel aces box. No need for the pilots, that was covered by the glorious transport. I would however *love* 2 re-painted X-Wings:

black-x-wing-2.jpg

Along with two T-65 Prototype title cards for 3 points that updates the dial, upgrade bar, action bar, stats, and 2 T-70 dials. A couple decent astromechs would be most welcome as well.

Let's face it, I'm going to proxy it anyway, but I would still jump at the chance to give you $30.00 for an official version (ok, that's a lie I would give you 30.00 twice, one for each set I would buy). I doubt that I'm the only one.

Plus, if you do I'll name my next two children Alex and Frank... regardless of gender.

if you want the X-wing to be the T-70 X-wing, just buy T-70s and paint them black

You see a red wing and you want it painted black

if you want the X-wing to be the T-70 X-wing, just buy T-70s and paint them black

You see a red wing and you want it painted black

No colors anymore I want them to turn black...

I plan on two new cores and two T-70 expansions regardless because I want 4 T-70s. There's just an extra $60.00 in it for FFG to make the repainted aces.

I don't really mind what form it takes, but I think an X Wing aces pack taking it's inspiration from the Rogue Squadron novels (and it's appearance in the movies) would be awesome. I already have 5 X Wings and I know I'd buy more.

GUNBOAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, and while we are requesting things, a gunboat for Grimmy please.

I think the X-Wing Aces box should be and alternate colour scheme of T65, and the orange/black T70 from EpVII. A now and then box set if you will :)

On that note, I would be interested in seeing some kind of Seinar Fleet Systems promotional box set for the Imperials. One of each TIE, all in the same showroom colour scheme. Throw in more upgrade cards than you would usually find in an Aces box (as this would be a fair bit larger), but I think we would be happy with 1 generic and 1 unique pilot for each TIE (to keep things manageable). Also, throw in a Seinar Fleet Systems promotional poster advertising the TIE range. The poster wouldn't necessarily have much relevance to the game itself, but would be a cool addition whilst making the box a must have for loyal supporters of the Imperial Navy ;)

I really like that idea, enough that I'm totally stealing it and passing it off as my own.

I'd really like to see more "Royal Guard" treatments for imperials, I love my red interceptor.

I reckon the reason we've got generically named aces in the T70 is because either FFG isn't allowed to spoil the names of characters from the new movies, or else that many of the pilots haven't been named yet. Once the other pilots get names (or FFG is allowed to use them) we'll almost certainly see another X-Wing aces pack. At least for the T70.

I would imagine those new pilots would come in a large ship expansion like the transport rather than a separate "aces" pack. The only reason why I say that is because unless there's a significant amount of power creep the T-70 should be robust for a long time.

I can't wait for the expansions so I can pick up my other 2 T-70s.

4 Blue Squadron with R2 + Integrated Astromech sounds like a really fun generic list. I'm genuinely curious to see what MajorJuggler calculates the efficiency at.

I'd be happy with a T-65 and an E-wing.

They both share the need for balance stuff (More copies of Integrated Astromech for the X-wing, for starters), and just as importaintly, both astromechs while having the same problem of the generic astromechs being of relatively little utility for them compared to the Y-wing, which gets a better deal (R2 gives more greens; R5 has more hull to patch up). It'd be a great place to stick in a few more, and I'd love some more exotic paint jobs while we're there.

Dear FFG,

This year for Christmas I want more pilots for my Y-Wings and Z-95 Headhunters. I have been a very good boy this year and didn't even take new released prizes from other regions like I did last year.

I hope Mrs. FFG is doing well.

Best,

Z

That's an interesting quirk. Z-95s and Y-wings are just fine at this point - one as a simple swarmy jouster, the other as a toolbox of tricks that really does justice to the idea of a 'workhorse' frame.

Would they benefit from more pilot variety? Sure. Then again, most ships only have so a couple unique pilots, so I wonder why these two stand out? Because y'know, I can agree that they kinda do. I guess it was the Rebels Aces, combined with the various X-wing releases, leaving them as the small ships that have the fewest... well, alongside Corran. I wouldn't mind having more than one pilot for the E-wing, too. ;)

I'm not sure that the Y or Z need more pilots, but I do wish FFG would fix the error on Horton and Dutch's cards. The EPT upgrade icon clearly got cut off.

I mostly want EPTs on my Rebel Y-Wings and more scummy abilities on the scummy Y-Wings. And I like Z-95s as filler/blocker craft. I think pilot abilities that take this into account (the advantage of low PS + blocking/bumping) would be fantastic. And, let's face it, there's only one named pilot for the Scum Z-95.

The X-wing fix is new T-70s coming in Wave 8, or if you don't want to wait that long there is good news! They come in the new core set which is now available in all stores that carry FFG products.

Yeah, I get that. FFG has finally put out the X-Wing.

I'd still like a retrofit aces pack with the dials because:

1) I love repaints, and I'd like a black and orange T-65 prototype(s). Like Neko said, I wouldn't be offended if Poe's black and orange T-70 was the other model.

2) I'd like to retro Luke, Wedge, Wes and Garven into T-70s.

I don't play in tourneys, so I'm playing as if there is an upgrade title card anyway and just using the T-70 dials. I would just prefer having it officially.

It's the same reason I'll be buying the colored bases, and the same reason I have the starfield and Deathstar playmats. This has no bearing on whether or not I'm getting the new core and expansions, I will be doing that anyway.

Its almost certainly this.

When i worked on supporting the lord of the rings licenced games for GW there was a lot of stuff we were simply not told until the last minute, stuff we were told but with outrageous legal rammifications and fines if we leaked it etc etc

Newline/Peter Jackson were incredibly tight about this, i can't see Disney being any more lenient.

They want to keep as much mystery about the film as possible until as late as possible

For example when 'fellowship of the ring' came out, the big 'secret' was what the balrog looked like. We obviously knew as we had to sculpt one but we were under the strictest instruction not to disclose any imagery to the public, anyone who did would have been sacked and themselves personally sued.

And i seem to recall we all signed an agreement that we'd pay a stupidly high financial penalty if we were caught leaking info/images that had not been approved by Newline as 'for the public'

+1 for the Paint It Black reference.

I am totally against the idea of giving the T-65 a T-70 dial. It just throws a nice opportunity for differentiation between the two out of the window, it is a waste of potential! I agree that the aces would be better of with some fix in addition to Integrated Astromech, but the generics seem to be in a pretty good spot for now. The dial however should not be the place for adjustments. It is lazy. And boring. It is pretty clear that in this game T-65 != T-70. That is a good thing!

It's not giving, it's an upgrade you're paying points for. The T-65 can still be a cheap option if you are trying to fit points in a list. So if you have 22 points left to fill up you can still have your T-65 with R2 and integrated astromech. You don't have to upgrade, it becomes a choice.

More options and a viable T-65 is a good thing!

Actually, before that can we get a Kihraxz with this model instead?

I agree with everything Reiver said. A T-65 X-Wing and E-Wing aces pack would be excellent. There's no need for a T-70 X-Wing aces pack at this point... it will only just have had two separate releases after all! I'd like to see pilots from Wraith Squadron for the X-Wing. Possibly a green CorSec paint job, or a black StealthX paint job. A mid-range PS E-Wing pilot with an ability that gives good action efficiency would be interesting.

Generic astromechs that are usable only on pilot skill 4 or lower would benefit both X and E. They'd need to be of little benefit to the generic Y though, which is in a good place already.

Edit: I don't think the OP's original idea is a good one. I don't want to see T-65's being upgradeable to T-70's. Sorry but I just don't see the point. They should each be individual but competitive.

More options are not always good, especially when they dilute ship identities. I will continue to disagree with you there.
