New damage deck now required at Worlds; FFG will hand them out to players

By Danthrax, in X-Wing

The Tournament Rules document was stealth updated to Version 3.2.2 today: https://images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com/filer_public/b4/38/b4383976-fa2a-4062-a271-b18ad854530a/x-wing_tournament_rules_v322.pdf

I noticed this little bit was slipped in:

Note: The Force Awakens™ damage deck will be required at the 2015 X-Wing World Championship. Each player will receive one deck upon entry.

In other news, they also changed up the wording on scoring MoV a bit to avoid confusion with whether you apply the "half points for large-base ships" rule all the time for just when time runs out (it's all the time), and whether you count Hull and Shield Upgrades (you do):

When calculating a score, each player receives half the total squad point value (rounded down) of each enemy large ship whose combined total hull and shields, including any Hull Upgrades or Shield Upgrades, have been reduced to half or below.

Yup.

THANK GOD! Love the new deck

I wonder what fraction of players at World's don't already own one?

Wonder if FFG will do the same for store and regional championship kits in 2016 - include a few damage decks with them for players who want to compete, but haven't bought the new core set, yet?

It'd be the customer-friendly thing to do, after all...

I'd guess the number of people who don't have one will be in the single digits. Maybe as many as a dozen, if you account for the international players who might legitimately struggle to find a copy of the new core set.

But I think it's a great goodwill gesture, worth way more than they'll spend in printing costs.

Cool beans. I'll be getting a free copy.

I don't have one yet, and likely won't have one by the time Worlds happens. I'm asking my wife for a copy of the new Starter for Christmas.

Those of us who don't live in the US, since it's not available elsewhere yet. Yeah, we can buy it online, sure. But I would suspect many of us are waiting to support our FLGS.

Even if most of the players at Worlds already have one, giving them a second one means that many more will be available on the secondary market.

When does store champ season start?

I'm trying to wrap my head around requiring the old deck at all events until Jan 1 2016... except worlds.

"Each player must bring all components needed for their squad and games. This includes (but is not limited to) dice, a range ruler, maneuver templates, and a complete Damage deck. Until January 1st, 2016, players must use the original Damage deck. Starting January 1st, 2016, players are required to use The Force Awakens™ core set Damage deck. The TO is not expected to supply any game components to players".

Call my crazy but I'd be ok if the alternate art cards for worlds were alternate art damage decks. Maybe holographic or something like that. I'd get more use out of it then an acrylic crit token or any of the single pilot cards.

I sorta called this.

I guess players prepping for Worlds will have to practice with the new damage deck on their own time, while using the old deck in official tournaments. Seems kinda awkward, but what can you do? I guess it shouldn't affect your play that much.

Pretty easy to proxy them and most players going to World swill already have them. This will help get more on secondary market.

Some FLGS should have them by now. We have them in Canada

As goodwill goes, that's huge.

It also means they've printed extra copies over and above their regular stock.

I thus predict we'll quietly get an extra pack of the things sitting along the dice packs in the near future... even if it's a 'one off' print run deal.

Aside from maybe a few foreign Nationals events, there are no official events between now and Worlds.

I hope that the standalones damage decks will be available officially (or readily available through secondary means) because I would appreciate a second 'updated' one for my games at home so I do not have to share. I have plenty of maneuver templates and dice...don't feel the need for more TIEFOs and T-70s...it would be nice to have that damage deck for a decent price.

Good form FFG! I think this shows they really do care for the community's concern. Now do this for other OP events and that would stop ppl whining about having to fork out cash for a new dmg deck.

Super Dash just got buffed!

But at least it is possible to get a new damage deck without having to get a new core set. Does this mean there may be plans on getting them for individual sale?

Yup, I retract my earlier statemnet. My FLGS got them in an hour or two ago.

huh. It was released here in Denmark yesterday and I have my copy now.

I'm talking about tournaments run by stores for seasonal prize kits and whatnot, not official FFG OP tournaments.

Just as I predicted

Me too - most people were too busy trying to dodge falling objects to pay any attention :-)

That will be, as always, up to the organizers of those individual tournaments.
