Playing Epic for the first time...

By Stinger07, in X-Wing

So my buddy just picked up the raider and we were looking to play a match of epic for the first time.

We have limited ships, so we are only doing about 250 points rather than a full 300, but other than that, we plan on doing everything according to the rulebook.

So, with that, I have a few questions.

First, any tips or tricks on playing epic to speed things up?

How about energy, energy is only determined by the speed of the maneuver, nothing else, right?

Also, I saw there was some errata for epic, stating that at range 4 and 5, ships only gain the same single evade dice that they gain at range 3, is that correct?

Thanks in advanced!

I find swarms have more benefit in epic than aces, so be sparing with your aces - completely different game to 100/100

Try to make it Mandatory to have a corvette class in the field for each side on your first couple games...

Not that easy to keep those things competitive.

Don't be afraid to have fun and experiment!

Oh, and the errata is correct.

I've found that using as many generic small fighters as possible both speeds things up and makes it easier. It's hard to remember all the special rules for pilots in a big game. Also, try to have as many different PS pilots as possible. It's no fun when someone has to move 12 Academy Pilots at one go.

Don't worry about the points. I always make up a fun list and see how many points it is next.

Ion reduces the energy you gain by 1 per token (then discard all tokens.)

Engineering Team gives you a bonus energy when you fly straight.

Reactor Leak critical damage cards reduce the energy you gain.

Don't over upgrade anything. It becomes far too easy to miss those cards. As noted above, generics really shine in Epic.

Read the most recent updates from FFG for the Epic rules and FAQ. There's some big ones in there like ships and weapons all start with full energy (duh!)
