Nova Cannon Criticals

By Kadros, in Rogue Trader Rules Questions

Hi all,

I am probably being thick here, but any help would be appreciated.

On page 16 of BFK, it states that if you roll a 10 on any damage die from a Nova Cannon hit a critical occurs.

Nova cannon damage is 2d5+*

Does that mean that you need a total of 10+ on these dice to cause a crit or do you need 2 5s on the 1d5s?

Thanks for your attention.

Others might chime in with their interpretations, but the way I've always run it is that all d5's are rolled with d10's with their result halved. And while rolling a 9 this way is still the same damage roll as a 10 there's a difference where criticals and righteous fury is concerned. In the case of the nova cannon you roll 2d10 and halve the result of each die (rounding up) for damage, but each die inflicts a critical hit if a 0 is rolled.

Exactly this. I've only ever seen one real d5 in my life.

Ok - I use the D&D dice program so make a d5 on it, but it now it makes sense.
