Not happy about buying new damage deck/core set!

By PoliteElliot, in X-Wing

Seriously, I understand the frustration of feeling like you're being forced into a purchase you wouldn't otherwise have made, but a) you, personally, aren't being forced into anything, and b) pretending that the only choices are "Spend £25 On A New Core Set" or "Don't Play Tournaments" isn't terribly helpful.

Actually I only have those two choices. If I want to buy a deck of ebay the shipping alone is already $25.

So yes I am forced to buy the new starter. I enjoy X-Wing competitively and have spend too much money to just stop playing.

Also: The core sets have only just started getting wider distribution than a couple of US retail chains. There's two months for them to start filtering their way into wider availability (and popping up on the secondary market more often / in more places) before you actually need one.

Good lord. This thread is still going?

Serious Nerdrage. Serious.

Hey man you like...bumped it you know.

You want FFG to make money.

But argue that people should buy from the secondary market.

Perhaps there's a better way?

I personally don't care about FFG making your extra tenner one way or the other. They're big boys, they can look after themselves. Perhaps they've made the judgement that there aren't enough people who'd need a new deck but don't want the new core set to make it worth the hassle and cost for them to package and ship a bunch of new damage decks separately? Especially given that there were bound to be decks floating around the secondary market for anyone who wanted to pick them up.

In any case, whether you buy a damage deck off someone who's bought more than one new core, or you buy a new core and sell the bits you're not interested, FFG ARE STILL MAKING MONEY FROM SOMEONE BUYING THE NEW CORE THAT DECK CAME FROM.

IS IT NECESSARY TO BE SHOUTING AT ME?

A damage deck on the secondary market came from a Core Set. Someone bought one to split up and sell. FFG's not losing out there.

The new core was on Target Prerelease, there's plenty of time until 1st January for them to spread out.

Besides, if you're a tournament player that means you're around other players with their own sets, which means you could easily find someone without a dislike of perfectly good ships to split a core with. And if you're not a tournament player, you don't need the new deck.

I don't want to play competitively and i don't want the new ships.

Then don't get the new core. Seems simple enough.

Except I want to play with a well designed damage deck.

Except I want to play with a well designed damage deck.

Then get a new core set.

Except I want to play with a well designed damage deck.

Then get a new core set.

So don't get a new core set.

But it comes with a free frogurt!

So get a new core set.

But the frogurt is also cursed!

So don't get a new core set.

LOL Yeah I know it was a circular ass argument when I said it.

Except I want to play with a well designed damage deck.

Then get a new core set.

Or buy it off of eBay... Or find someone at your LGS that will buy a 2nd core and is willing to sell you the extra damage deck.

Or print out the new cards, and glue them over the ones they replace in the old damage deck. Since you're not playing competitively then proxies aren't a problem.

If none of those work for you, then that means you are simply looking for an excuse to whine.

As far as FFG selling them. They may, it may not be at stores it may be a web store product. Or maybe they'll include extra's in the Store Champion kit. But even if they do one of those two things I know you'll still have people complain about it.

If FFG sell a damage deck the next complaint will be" why can't i buy upgrade cards separately"

Except I want to play with a well designed damage deck.

Then it's not a case of need, it's a case of want. You're no longer forced to do anything to keep playing.

If the idea of splitting a core with someone without a dislike for X-wings and TIE fighters is too much effort for you then just run it off a printer or something.

Why did the aggressive English guy put several damage decks in a sock and beat me with them for whining. Would follow fairly shortly.

Least I have a use for the old ones.

(Edit: yes I am mostly joking).

The thing that I'm annoyed about is that HTC have made a One M9 and I have a One M8 so they are in effect forcing me to buy a new phone if I want the improved version.

My Samsung S4 is horribly out of date...

If FFG sell a damage deck the next complaint will be" why can't i buy upgrade cards separately"

This is why I have decided I am against it...

Umm, I hate to break it to you, but they already do...

I understand the idea here. But I don't know if I see why FFG shouldn't sell one just because of that.

It's not like FFG will somehow be forced into doing something they don't want, just because they did something sorta similar. It's not like selling the damage deck opens them up to lawsuits for not selling upgrade cards in a card only pack.

If anyone uses the damage deck as an example of why FFG should, they are guilty of the worse kind of sloppy logic and should be ignored.

I think FFG will do what every company does, they will look at their options and come to a decision that they feel makes the most sense based on actual facts and not just suppositions and opinions. If they find that selling the damage deck by itself makes sense to them, they will. If they don't, then they won't.

Customer opinion will no doubt fit into the equation, just like I expect it did with the S&V Dial ruling.

Ha ha ok I can see why FFG wants/needs to sell blister packs & that selling cards separately isn't a good idea for them or the game really ;)

I've seen a few querying the fuss over a 30$ or 25ukp purchase - it's almost twice that here in Norway, with a 25% import tax if you buy it online, so people throwing this argument don't know what they're talking about.

I appreciate people adding arguments; I hadn't thought about licensing, and its clear many don't mind paying the cost, but I still haven't seen an argument to convince me that its not a bad deal for many of us because it clearly is.

That's situational based on your location, not FFG's fault though. The cost for individual parts it can be assumed would also have a 25% import tax, so the lack of efficiency getting individual parts of the core rather than the whole thing is still not mitigated.

False equivalency my friend no one's going to stop you making a call on your old phone, people will stop you using the old damage deck from January.

No one in any thread has objected to the new damage deck itself, only at the way they must acquire it.

Had they just released it separate for £5 we'd of been perfectly happy, sticking it in a new core that's not a new edition of the game is our grievance.

Except I want to play with a well designed damage deck.

Then get a new core set.

Or just proxy the cards. Print out the new ones, sleeve them in front of the old ones. Magic, new damage deck. This isn't hard. If you're not playing at tournaments, even buying a stand alone deck is a stupid waste of money.

Nope, at that point he's responding to a person that doesn't play in tournaments who just wants a "well designed damage deck". He is not in any different situation in January than he is today.

I just saw a $6.50 new TFA damage deck listed on ebay. With free shipping.

One on uk site at £6.50 (plus 1.50 shipping). I suspect that price will come down as people buy second or third sets.
