So forgotten Rebel Captive stresses and other 'must' abilities like Tactician aren't forced to be retroactively applied if the opposing player doesn't consent?

This isn't new language, although I guess it's been moved from the tourney rules into the main FAQ.
How does that work with 'must' triggers, anyhow?
If you miss it, does this mean you officially get off scot free? That would feel weird.
So now more than ever, you have to watch your opponent like a hawk to ensure they don't "forget" to follow the rules? Sounds stressful.

I think must is always a happen so if you missed it then you have to add it in retroactively somehow.
This is pretty much the same as it's always been. If I say 'dials' and my opponent agrees without giving me Mara Jade stress that's not my fault. Remember your triggers if you want to play a competitive game.

Mara Jade is not optional. If you are aware that your opponent has a ship with Mara Jade and you don't check your ships to see if they need to take a stress unless your opponent instructs you to then you are cheating. It's no different from using PTL and 'forgetting' to take a stress token.
What the above said, stop looking for ways to cheat.
I agree that Mara Jade is not optional, I don't always remember that my opponent has it. I'm not going to do a scan of all his cards and the end of each round. If you have Mara Jade in your build, REMEMBER IT!! I blame you at the end if you don't know your own list and miss the stress. If the dials are already in and the first one is flipped things can not be undone to adjust for a ship that should have had stress.
But, if you remember your opponent has Mara Jade then do the right thing and do what the card says. Pushing your opponent into the dial phase is wrong.
