Any X-wing product? So does that mean the satalite tokens in the core set are now used?

By Marinealver, in X-Wing

So Epic tournament now states that 12 obstacles from any X-wing product. So remeber those satalite tokens from the core set(s) that were never used? Can they be used now for Epic.

And if they are used do they act like debris or like rocks?

Satellite tokens only appear in missions and have never been legal for tournament play as obstacles.

However (I have not read the new rules updates yet) the debris clouds included in the Raider are, in fact, debris clouds. They might be legal for Epic tournaments.

They aren't obstacles. Rocks and debris are obstacles; satellites are for specific mission objectives.

Page 3 of Epic tournament rules allows for those obstacles. as stated in #5 of Epic Dogfight Squad Deployment Procedure.

Each player places six unique obstacle tokens, gathered from any X-Wing product, next to the play area, for a total of 12 obstacles. Then, the player with initiative chooses two of these obstacle tokens and places them into the play area at the same time, within range 1 of each other but not at Range 1–2 of either player edge. Then, the opposing player chooses two of the remaining obstacle tokens and places them into the play area at the same time, within Range 1 of each other but not at Range 1–2 of either player edge or any previously-placed obstacle token. The players continue to alternate in this way until all 12 tokens have been placed.

So with these rules I ask again, will the satellite tokens also be placed since in scenarios they count as obstacles? Also will they act like Debris or Asteroids?

And, as several people have said, the satellites are not obstacles. Therefore that rule has no bearing on them.

So far, the only obstacles in the game are asteroids and debris.

Each player must include exactly three unique obstacle tokens of their choice in their squad. Players must select these obstacles from the twelve asteroids included in the two core sets and the six debris clouds included in the YT- 2400 and VT-49 Decimator expansion packs. A player may not select two of the same asteroid or debris cloud.

Epic tournament rules again. There isn't 12 obstacles in standard. Read plz.

But from what is being said satellite tokens are not obstacles. So then again what counts as obstacles for epic now? Huge ships can be played as obstacles but they are not allowed in premier events, also the 3 X-large debris cloud tokens from the Raider are they allowed now?

As for the rule goes any obstacle in standard will of course be accepted in Epic but it doesn't use that wording it uses obstacles found in any x-wing product so the interpretation of that rule is now up for question. So far a general concesous is core set satellites are not, so how about huge ships? Raider debris clouds?

The chunk quoted above is from the standard tournament rules. It says you pick three obstacles out of the 12 asteroids (between the original and Force Awakens Core Set) and the 6 debris clouds.

"Any X-Wing product" translates here to "the debris in the Raider is legal on top of the stuff that's allowed for standard tournaments."

And no, Epic ships aren't legal obstacles in tournaments. It specifically refers to obstacle TOKENS. Read plz. :P

This really became a thing...

Y'know, I'd actually love if they did count. More variety is always fun.

No idea what you'd do rules-wise, though. Perhaps an automatic damage?

*WHANG* "Oops."

Armada has an obstacle that is actually beneficial to land on. I wouldn't mind such a thing in X-Wing. Land on the satellite and you can download targeting data, getting a free TL, or some such.

Epic ships? Never heard of them; I have heard of huge ship although :P .

So yes huge ships are not used as obstacles in standard tournaments. That's a given. However on huge ship rules it says that huge ships can be used as obstacles. As for satellite tokens I guess the consensus is that they are not obstacles and even if they were only one could have been taken because they are all the same. So satellites are out by general consensus.

I know epic doesn't get as clear of rules as in standard and this is a perfect example with such a broad statement such as "Any X-wing Product". To take that literally it only bans obstacles from Armada, or any other non-FFG game.

Um, hello, who cares about the satellites when you got FREAKIN MINES in new core set now! These need to be obstacles for sure! Forget rocks, let's play in mine fields! Except...super dash would still ignore them, boo! And they don't have a standard play rule of what happens when you hit one, outside of one mission letting the rebel/la resistance player to detonate them.

Forget rocks, let's play in mine fields! Except...super dash would still ignore them, boo!

Have their effect trigger in the combat phase instead of on overlap, then only crew dash would ignore them.
