Expose is a terrible idea. You actually deal more consistent damage just taking focus as your action instead. And you don't drop your agility in the process.

Marksmanship is also not very useful on a TIE fighter because unlike focus, you can't use it defensively if you don't roll any eyeballs on your attack. There are better elite cards out there. Push the limit on the TIE/FO is not bad, predator is always good on anything, even crack shot would be a better choice on a TIE...

Expose is a bad upgrade.. Just remember C.R.E.E.P.

Don't have push the limit, does it come in Imperial Aces?

I used to use Expose on Mauler Mithel, but only for when I got in at Range 1 behind somebody to deliver a punishing blow, and it was effective... until I tried it against the Falcon and got blown to itty-bitty pieces. Like to see you using "Dark Curse", its one of my favorite TIEs. If you have a Stealth Device, its worth the 3 points on him, b/c he becomes nearly impossible to hit.

A wing and Imp Aces

Or you could've been JUST AS punishing WITHOUT Expose, simply by taking the focus action:

Mauler Mithel @ R1 w/ Expose rolls 5 attack dice (unmodified) so on average gets 2 or 3 hits (2.5).

Mauler Mithel @ R1 w/ Focus rolls 4 attack dice so on average gets 3 hits...

I believe 3 is higher than 2.5. AND with a focus token, if you don't roll any eyeballs on your attack, you can save it for defense. AND with a focus token, you are using your full agility on defense; whereas with Expose you have -1 agility.

Expose is terrible.

Yeah. The -1 agility is no problem if no one can shoot you, which was the only times I would use it. Once I started looking into the math and probability though, I dropped it really fast.

Expose is only really good as a free action on a decimator - because as long as you're trading fire, reducing your own agility is a bad plan (because you only fire once but can be shot multiple times) and even if you're safe, even with 2 attack dice you get the same benefit from a target lock or focus token that you do with an extra die.

Epsilon Leader is good, but needs to be in a squad that'll be pulling stress a lot - a squad with Push The Limit is ideal.

My main recommendation - you've gone too heavy on upgrades. If you're flying a pure TIE fighter squad (even including new /fo models) you need at least 5 ships, because you'll need that many attacks to punch through the defences of agile targets, or to wear down something tough in a meaningful timescale. Good as mauler mithel's ability is, you can't rely on getting him into range 1 reliably.

Remember that you can pack all 6 named TIE fighters into a list easily. There's no reason to end up with only 4 ships!

He's great isn't it?

Expose is terrible.

Convincing argument.

The comparative odds of spending 1 action for gaining a bonus die (Expose, boosting into R1, et c.) vs spending 1 action for gaining a focus token.

(Dice+1)*1/2=(Dice)*3/4
2Dice+2 = 3 Dice

2=Dice (the point where the odds of adding a bonus die adds as much damage as a Focus Token is 2 attack dice. Fewer, and the +1 Die has an advantage. More, and the Focus has an advantage).

The comparative odds of spending 2 actions for gaining a Bonus Die and a Target Lock, vs spending 2 actions for gaining a Focus Token and a Target Lock

(Dice+1)*3/4=(Dice)*15/16

12Dice+12=15Dice
4=Dice

If you have two actions and less than 4 attack dice, you get more value by spending one of the two to gain an extra die if you are spending the other on a Focus or Target Lock, than you would if you had gathered the TL and Focus together.

If you have more than 4, the TL+F is superior to gaining the bonus die.

So, to recap, if it didn't also nerf your defense and cost 0 squadpoints, Expose would be good if you had 0-1 attack die and 1 action per round, of 0-3 attack dice and 2 actions per round.

However, it costs 4 squad points, and lowers your agility.

It shows up on Decimators occasionally, as they can use an Experimental Interface to turn the action-loss into mobility-loss, and don't suffer the loss of agility, but that's 7 squadpoints and a mobility loss for the privilege of... having an Imperial HLC Outrider, with none of the mobility.

Yeah, expose was a bad ideas, I don't even recall using it in battle.
