New FAQ, the Universe is seeing balance?!?

By Plainsman, in X-Wing

With the new FAQ do you see things becoming more balanced?

I'm seeing "nerfs" and "improvements" alike that seem to be taking some wonky extremes out of the game...which is in turn making everything better and can I say, 'more balanced!?!'

Does this mean the rise of all kinds of new AND old builds where 'everything' is "back on the table!?!"

no idea, need to see on the table

I am optimistic, however. Anything that hampers the power of fat PWTs makes the game a better experience.

now we just gotta hope no one cries gloom-and-doom over the return of the Tie Swarm, or TLT spam or something

i can see it now

"HAH YOUR TLT IS USELESS IT CANNOT FIRE TWICE BECAUSE MY SHIP DIED FROM THE FIRST VOLLEY WHAT A WASTE!!!"

Chaos is not necessarily balance, but it's closer than we were....probably.

Outlook hazy, try again later.

Nah I think it will throw the meta into 161250_logo.jpg

I like the changes. Anything that will Break up the (in my area, somewhat stale,) two ship meta. For me, the half points on wounded large ships will make those two ship builds more of a gamble than they were before. Which is as it should be.

Balance is a wonderful thing. When everything is viable, it doesn't create a "use whatever" environment, it creates a, "Use what you're good with" environment that demands you understand the counterplay.

A great example of game balance is Halo. If FFG can achieve a Halo-like balance in terms of their ships, like Halo's weapons and abilities... Then they've made a perfect game.

Hop to it, FFG! :D

If it stops points fortresses from dominating it can only be a good thing.

I am still pissed about SLAM.

I am still pissed about SLAM.

That the article lied or that it actually works as the card indicated?

Both really. Selecting a maneuver on your dial should imply that you reveal it to your opponent. Then the article mess.

I really don't know why I even care because I never run bombs on K wings thus far anyway, just mines. I am sure with the rules clarification, I never will either.

Whilst I'm happy to accept that they didn't intend Conner Net to work as they wrote it, I do think they've gone the worst possible way about fixing it. If you want the card and rules to interact differently from how they're written, errata one or the other to fix them - don't just stick the change in the FAQ section >.<

Not sure that Halo would be better with an Assault Rifle or SMG or some other sort of easy mode spray weapon good enough to dominate the game, but if not everyone spawns with one of those medium-long range general purpose weapons, there is often nothing you can do with your PoS assault rifle/SMG. Halo is not in the least balanced.

Anyways, link to the new FAQ please?

Again, one of the few times I agree with Para. As someone that has played all the Halo games... Bhahahahahaha, "balanced". Oh, that is really sweet, let me know how balanced while you run around with your assualt/SMG (depending on game) and I snipe you cause I got to the weapon first, Even the first. If you want a "balanced" Halo, go play SWAT. Closest thing it would ever get to being a good example, but then again, you would only have 2 weapon choices...

Personally? I never had a problem with turrets, so not seeing how this plays into it. I do believe though it should apply to all high health ships though 7+ combined shield/hull. That way we don't see BBBBZ and YYYY being the new meta, otherwise it is just going to be the same complaints but different ships.

Half points, weird rulings that don't jive with card texts (or articles written about them), and questions left unanswered...

As a TO, this is one big head ache....

Maybe my Bombers want to reveal their dials willy-nilly anytime I want. Maybe I'll reveal it during the attack phase.

I'll hold it up and it is revealed, if you look at it it means I can drop a bomb.

We used to play the same game in middle school (90s? god), but if you looked you got punched.

Good... then some of us can get a clue and stay at home and have fun and such with our STAR WARS, and our FUN little house rules and like-minded-friends and good times!

:D

I am still pissed about SLAM.

I feel ever so slightly vindicated in my original interpretation of the SLAM card, now that I've seen the Deploy rules language. There, it explicitly states the maneuver does not count as revealing a dial. In a situation where it would have zero impact on game possibilities. What a cluster#%€£ the SLAM thing has been.

I'm moving on though. Still gotta love this game.

I'd hesitate to use Halo as an example. In the first game you can kill someone in 3 shots with the ******* sniper rifle pistol. It's great fun don't get me wrong but half of the weapons are viable and the other half are worthless crap. Newer games in the series are better about balance but generally combat revolves around 1 general purpose medium-long range weapon that still wins out most of the time in close combat situations against dedicated CQB weapons anyways. Games are decided often purely by who can gain control of the power weapons. These power weapons can then be used to secure more power weapons.
