We now know that running over multiple rocks and/or debris you take the effects from everything you hit. What about defense? Does it still only add 1 to defense, even if the shooting line passes through two obstacles?
Multiple Asteroids on defense
We now know that running over multiple rocks and/or debris you take the effects from everything you hit. What about defense? Does it still only add 1 to defense, even if the shooting line passes through two obstacles?
Is it even possible for this to happen, if obstacles have to be at least one range increment apart?
I imagine, assuming it IS possible with the new, smaller asteroid, that it would still only be one bonus defense die.
An attack can only be obstructed once, regardless of the number of obstacles.

Edited by ParravonAn attack is either obstructed or not obstructed; the number of obstructions does not change the number of additional defense dice rolled.
Thanks Parravon. And yes, it can happen. It's happened a couple of times. It's not common, but it can.

A range increment is 2.5 small bases long. A 1-forward movement is 1 small base long (and in fact, the front of your ship effectively moves 2 bases distance), and a 2-forward is 2 small bases long. So, yeah, just about any maneuver that's as long as a 2-straight or longer can potentially overlap multiple obstacles, because the front of your ship has moved more than 1 range increment. Bank and turn maneuvers cover even more distance than the equivalent speed of straight maneuver too, so those make it pretty easy to do if you make a really bad maneuver choice.
EDIT: Realized you may have meant "Is it possible to have two obstacles between attacker and defender?" For that, definitely yes, even with medium-sized obstacles. Both ships would have to be fairly close to the obstacles, though.
