New Damage Deck

By Mind Robber, in X-Wing

They only make a few new cards per wave how could you package that up in a set?

Would you not get any cards at all with ships then? So i'd now have to buy all the ships AND a card pack! That's more money!

You bit order them. All of Privateer Press' models come with cards and you can also buy all of the cards in a deck, or individually directly from PP.

I think in some respects FFG are a victim of their own success with X-wing. Not sure they expected it to be so popular and the way they are adapting and improving the game when they could just milk it now and not bother is really admirable and makes me want to give them all my money.

Mixed with the less than stellar K-wing changes, the lack of named pilots or "must have" upgrades for the ep7 stuff, and my general ambivalence towards a scum-heavy wave 8 - I'm considering if anything, just simply making due with what I have now, and will probably sit this next wave out.

Er, what?

By "less than stellar K-wing changes," I assume you mean the fiasco where the author of the article didn't check with the developers about what the rules actually say. And that sucks, but it's not a change to the K-wing--because the rules never agreed with the article.

I don't have any idea what you mean with the Episode 7 releases. BB-8 alone made me wipe drool off my new set when I unboxed it.

And Wave 8 is no more Scum-heavy than Wave 7, and possibly less: if you look at ships rather than SKUs, Scum make up 40% of the wave.

Exactly same situation here. I have so far bought at least one of everything FFG has brought out for X-Wing.

Since the ugly moves with the K-Wing and the new mandatory core set, I plan on skipping mostly everything from Wave 8, unless the Tractor Beam mechanics prove to be spectacularly fun AND survive all the way to release date without nerfs in the way. Only in that case I might consider getting a Mist Hunter, and only for the tractor beam. My romance with FFG came to an end.

Okay. I think it continues to be a great game, and I think it sucks that anyone would consider leaving--but especially over a bad marketing decision that didn't affect anything in the game, like the K-wing, or a badly needed update to a core component like the damage deck. But it's your decision.

These draconian practices by FFG are hitting a lot of players hard.

Maybe it's time to relax these policies of "b buy ships you don't want/need just to stay competitive."

A card pack or such could go a long toward keeping the customers happy and engaged.

Fair warning: since it's quite evident at this point that you're a single-issue troll, I'm reporting any more posts I see like this one, and I'll let the mods deal with you.

First, FFG has 2-3 months to get out a damage deck pack, if they so chose. The fact that they haven't done it yet quite simply means nothing.

Second, the number of people this will impact negatively is rather small. The only people who have a real problem are Tournament players, who play S&V exclusively.

If you don't play Tournaments then you don't really need the new deck. If you play either Imperials or Rebels then you will find the new ships at least worth the cost of the new core.

Even if you are one of the few affected by this, I see no real problem with expecting you to spend $5-30 for a new core just for the sake of staying in the competitive circuit. I would rather see them put out a damage deck for sale but if not it's not like FFG has fallen to the dark side.

Myself I play with a friend quite often and I provide pretty much everything. So unless I buy another core we'll either have to share a deck or he'll have to use a old one. So I'd very much like to see a damage deck sold... But I won't complain if it doesn't happen because we play casually and so a 2nd damage deck just isn't that big of a deal.

I am a little curious about the reprinted original core set. It seems ludicrous and counter-productive to keep making a product with an obsolete damage deck. But, changing anything in an existing product creates its own headaches. If I ever decide to buy another OT core, how can I tell which damage deck is inside?

Maybe a fun way for FFG to make some folks happy is to include a pile of new damage decks in a winter organized play pack. Instruct the stores to include a new damage deck with each paid early registration until they run out. Can't cost that much more to print and distribute than the alt-art cards and would be a good way to get some decks out into the wild, attract more players to OP tourneys, and generate some fan good-will.

I seriously doubt that FFG would release a stand-alone one, if they haven't done it now.

If they suddenly were to do that, the nerdrage that would come from everyone who's bought the new core specifically for the new draconian damage deck (DDD!) would materialize fairly quickly, I would think. They really don't want to be called draconian for doing it one way, then being called draconian for doing it another way.

So to quote my late grandmother... "Suck it up, buttercup and go put on your big boy pants." Or something to that effect.

Since this is not reality, we don't know how much it costs.

But thanks for presenting your supposition as fact!
