First off, I want to say thank you FFG for all of these changes, especially for the half point rules for ships!

One gripe, I have however, is the requirement to use the old decks until Jan 1st. I'd personally like to switch now to get used to, and I'm sure that newbies to tourneys could potentially only be able to use the new deck. If you want to keep this rule, I can at least see it applied to just Worlds for now. But a may statement instead of must would be nice. Thanks.

Just play all your FLGS games with that rule. The FFG ruling is for sanctioned tournaments. Go for it on your home turf.

Yeah, this ruling really only applies for whatever Nationals remain, along with World's. It's probably there specifically so that people won't go, "Haha, I'm flying generic TIE Fighers, I'll use the old damage deck so that fewer cards affect me."

My point was just that there's already a massive number of whiners players who think that being "forced" to use it by January is still too much, too soon. It just struck me as odd to see someone petitioning in favour of being able to use it sooner.

Not going to happen. We all knew that it was a given that the damage deck would be replaced once the new one was out. At least now we know when, and in competitive play there is no options.

Now if they sold a damage deck separately or at least ensure that all new classic core sets come with the new damage deck (and maybe an updated rule book as well) that would be better. I am sure that is within reason to ask of for FFG.

Correct, but at least now everyone is building their roster according to the same rules. If you had an option about which deck to use, most competitive players would go with the deck that affects their roster the least. That's not a situation you want to deal with at World's.

A "new-ships only" kid likely isn't attending the remaining Nationals or Worlds, which are the only events this rule change will really affect. The only other events until the change will be random FLGS ones, where you can handle the damage deck issue however you like.
