I guess the critical thing to bear in mind is that beyond squad costs, a Hull or Shield Upgrade will never make a ship worse.
New half dead large ships scoring - what about hull and shield upgrade?
Regeneration is the meta of the now. That and any damage mitigation just got a huge boost. Why wouldn't you take Determination now?

Edited by jkokuraI'm not sure I understand why they have made a distinction between small and large ships with this new ruling. There are a handful of small base ships with significant levels of hull and shield. I guess the smalls don't really see the level of abuse with extreme damage mitigation that a few of the large ship builds do?
BBBBZ says hello.
I don't see why this rule isn't universal. There are small ships with a lot of health as well as damage mitigation (Miranda w/C3PO) and small ships worth a lot of points such as decked out defenders.

Because determination will only affect large ships. R2-D2-crew might have a boost as he can give back a point and Chewbacca<crew> has taken a good sized buff, but R2-D2<astromech> has not received any benefit as small ships don't apply. Vader<crew> has been the upgrade that has taken a huge loss.
regeneration was always good. It's what makes corran essentially immortal in a 1v1 scenario
you don't take determination because it's some rng garbage sitting in predator's or ptl's seat

because the current crop of large fat ships are simply superior at whoring m.o.v than small ships
Miranda w/c3po and tlt is cute, but she's 38 points. compare to your typical fatass gorging himself on the high 50s, and she's suddenly not so abusable
also, small bases are slower (no large base displacement) which, combined with the fact that you cannot make them effectively fat to within the realm of typical large ships (apart from Corran, maybe), renders partial scoring completely unnecessary for them

Not if he's on a phantom XD
Vader<crew> has been the upgrade that has taken a huge loss.
How so? Any ship with crew vader on board you should expect to die. Seems to me that a crew vader large ship is the one ship that isn't effected by this rule at all.

and before anyone replies "well, now you can ignore Vader and still get 12 points!", no
You can't just ignore vader. He will destroy you whether you make him or not.

But Yikes I think the bro-bots are the list that has been hit the hardest with the large ship nerf.
As a dedicated BroBot player, let me assure you: not really. Yes, they'll be giving up points now, but no more than a small-ship list does so it is hardly crippling. And most importantly, whether you win 100-0, 100-25, 100-50, or 100-75, the most important thing is that you are still winning.

This is the key, really.
What's changed is that a 2-ship build is now, for MoV purposes, a 3 or 4 ship build. For the purposes of counting MoV, that's much more manageable (And indeed, 3-4 small ships is an entirely fine archetype in itself).
It was the "One ship, and it's more than half your entire list" that was skewing things; even though BBBBZ has plenty of hitpoints, killing 75% of its hitpoints is still going to get counted in the MoV.
... Well, unless the enemy player managed to leave all his ships on 2 health (And the Z on 1!). If he's managed to mess up your targeting priority that heavily, hell, he deserves the win. ![]()
Love it!!!!
But my poor poor lambdas
They already had a hard enough time earning points back.
Acceptable casualties I suspect.
It's a minor loss to the Lambda. It's far more crushing for higher point ships.
Now those high point ships are no longer worth taking... they are being punished for their durability in far too many ways. Want to roll with a Falcon or a Decimator? Great! That will cost you half you squad points and go ahead and just spot your opponent 25 points...
Many of you think this is something to celebrate.... and you will, until the first time you run a Firespray build...

I already given up on those, They are placed with the TIE-Bombers on the shelf.

My firesprays were often a sacrifice to the health of Whisper or Soontir, so giving up half or full points makes little difference there.
I was already one of the only dual IGs in my meta, now this pretty much garantees that I'll be the only one. I only partially mind. Yes, it will affect my usual 200 MOV wins, but then again, it means I won't face the same 3 players at every competition. On that level, I must admit that I welcome the diversity.

These posts are just down-right depressing. I thought the point of the change was to give incentive to players to not go to time with one hull left on a fat build, not to just give up large ships altogether.
Well maybe those TIE Bombers came come off the shelf cause a bomber swarm might just be one of the new meta lists.
