FAQ updated to Version 3.2

By Danthrax, in X-Wing

Jeff Wilder is correct. Asteroids are identified as a type of obstacle further up the page.

The rules introduce a new step I have not read about before. What is the "Declare Defender and Weapon" step? It is mentioned in both Cluster Mines and Twin Laser Turrets.

You now get to choose what you're shooting at, and with what.

It's badly worded, but if you look at the question just above the asteroid one, it mentions performing free actions OUTSIDE the perform actions step if you've overlapped something and says you can.

So maybe the asteroid question means (but they didn't clarify enough) that if you overlap an asteroid you cannot perform a a free action DURING your perform action step, as you are skipping it entirely.

But outside of that step, you can?

When does the new Rulebook become valid? From now on? For all countries?

then what do the Instigator, Impetuous and Assailer titles upgrade

there's no ship card in the game named "Raider-class corvette aft section"

epic ships are going to epic (CR90 is similarly up **** creek, ito titles)

they have their own upgrades, templates, rules for overlapping ships/obstacles and even their own damage decks . Not much of a stretch to imagine they have their own ship-type restrictions too (they even have two pilot cards!)

they exist in a realm outside the standard game and can be faqed into correctness at ffg's leisure, especially considering there is no defined precedent for ship-type classifications with parenthesis in them

But if we're saying that the TIE Adv. Prototype can't take a TIE Advanced upgrade because Adv., an abbreviation, is different from Advanced...

...then the Corv. on the Raider ship card should prevent it from taking any upgrades that specify corvette (note that even the capitalization is different). It's not just about one of them saying "(aft)" and the other saying "aft section," although that should be taken into consideration, too.

I don't see why they should follow different rules just because they're epic ships, aside from rule changes that have been enumerated, such as the different damage decks and how to deal with overlapping obstacles and smaller ships.

When does the new Rulebook become valid? From now on? For all countries?

Starting now, for everyone, I presume.

It actually doesn't contradict the rulebook. If you pass over the asteroid, and do not end up overlapping it, you can still perform free actions (per the rulebook). If you end up overlapping it, then you cannot perform free actions (per the FAQ).

It actually does contradict the (brand new, Jesus) rulebook. Page 14:

"A ship can still perform free actions even if it moved through or overlapped an obstacle, as long as the ship is not stressed." Emphasis mine. An asteroid is an obstacle.

This is a bizarre FAQ entry. There are a few bizarre ones this time around.

Sorry I am on 0 hrs sleep with a new born at home. To put it in simple terms, If I have Ysanne Isard and go through or land on an Asteroid I still get the free evade?

Epic ships follow vastly different rulesets

There is every reason they should follow different ship classifications (in fact, there is an entire rulebook devoted to illustrating the differences). The fact that they're two sections and two cards for one ship should already be ringing bells

Also, it's not that adv. doesn't stand for advance, it's that:

Tie adv. Prototype

Does not contain the entirety of the specified shiptype (Tie Advance)

It's a pretty **** explicit move from ffg, which is not only releasing the tie adv. Prototype only tie/v1 (note: not "tie advance prototype") but could have given the ship its canon classification:

Tie Advance v1

If you only moved through the rock, yes.

If you are on top of the rock, no.

Man, did they seriously have to do that to crack Shot? I mean, was it REALLY overpowered if it modified after the defenders mod? I mean, it's a SINGLE USE EPT. SINGLE. USE.

Also, why haven't they FAQ'd Leebo crew+ Adv Sensors? I mean I guess we can figure out what happens based on the Connor Net ruling, but I'm still confused why they passed this one up again.

Yup. This seem more like a rules errata than a FAQ.

And for setup, I take it that as long as my templates don't go outside of range 1 I can still

"players may use their range rulers and maneuver templates to help them set up formations during deployment."

Nothing here super surprising but nice to have the clarifications.

Can't believe we finally got the Fels Wrath nerf we've been asking for all this time.

It just seems cruel.

"Hey, let's make the least used pilot in the game even shittier!"

"Hey, let's make the least used pilot in the game even shittier!"

"Hey, let's make the least used pilot in the game even shittier!"

Don't you go dissing Storm Squadron Pilot.

I'm either missing something, or you haven't heard about the real reason people are buying the Raider.

Like I said in the Fel's Wrath nerf thread:

So if Fel's kills the last enemy ship, the match is a draw?

What if you have other ships still alive?!

"Sorry Soontir. Your wingman shot up the last enemy before he exploded. You get a tie."

Might be a dumb question but when do the new tournament rules take effect?

This is most definitely an errata, but I suspect the reason is to make debris and rocks closer together. The stress prevents free actions (Tycho excepted) after landing on a debris so I think they figured they should change the rule to make landing on a rock more painful. They could have just added a "while you are overlapping an obstacle you may not perform actions" to the obstacle rules in the rule book if that was their intention (but I suspect the rule book was finalised ages ago).

I am pained by the Crack Shot ruling, but that ruling could go either way based on RAW.

I think the Dark Curse entry needs to be reversed/removed based on the new rule book. But I also 'think' the Agromech might need changing too. Since paying costs is prior to becoming the attacker, I don't think it would generate the TL, but I would have to check this one out carefully.

But the action denial from debris is supposed to be a lot harsher than that from asteroids because asteroids are more likely to damage you.

aiyah, no

the rules reference in the ep 7 core explicitly states this:

Ship-type only: This upgrade can only be

equipped to a ship of the specified type. If the

ship’s type includes the entirety of the restricted

type, it can equip that upgrade. For example,

a TIE/fo fighter can equip an Upgrade card

restricted to “TIE Fighter only.”

this means Vader's TIE ADVANCE x1 qualifies for Tie Advance Only .

why did they faq it when it's already in the core rules? because faq doesn't have to mean "errata"

going on from that, the "Prototype" portion would not prevent TAPs from taking Tie/x1. The "Adv." portion does.

Tie Advance Prototype or Tie Advance v1 would both be eligible for TIE ADVANCE Only upgrades

the Tie Adv. Prototype is not

Quoted for truth and accuracy. Because "Adv"!="Advanced".

Might be a dumb question but when do the new tournament rules take effect?

The article says October 1st.

And I've got a tournament October 3. Time for me to brush up!

It's very clear that FFG wants players to be able to put only the X1 title on the Wave 1 ship, and only the V1 on the Wave 8 ship. So whatever they need to say to make that happen, they'll say. Full stop.

Seriously: don't ever build a tournament list based on having the X1 on the Inquisitor. You'll, um, be disappointed.

By the same token, they clearly want you to be able to put titles on the Raider. So if this ever comes into serious question, they'll errata a wording change. Just. Just trust that.

If there's an easy way to understand the intended outcome of FFG's words, that's the way to understand them. They'll fix whatever they say poorly.

So, if I'm on a rock, I can't perform a free action ... I get that ... Using Dutch as an example, he allows a friendly to 'acquire' a target lock, his abilty doesn't say perform a target lock action ..

As for Dark Curse, I don't see anything wrong with the way he is now..

Edit : And this adv. Vs advance is discussion is just ridiculous

Q: Can a ship that is overlapping an asteroid perform free actions?

A: No.

With the current wording it also means no more advanced sensors off an asteroid before you move either, am I right?

Yes.

That probably sucks the most.
