Arr!!! Pirates of the Outer Rim or S&V repaints

By Niinivaara, in X-Wing Painting and Modification

I promised in the Nordic Nationals to put some pics of my Scum so here you have. The main idea was to have extremely varied, colourful, un-uniformed (is that a word?) and even flamboyant repaints, as my Imperials are quite the opposite.

I also imagined that these lads had more time to pimp their rides than those involved in the Galactic Civil War, so most of the vessels have little or no wear and tear.

Here´s the group shot of the current fleet (waiting to have some new Wave 7 ships)

Headhunters.

Heavier fighters/bombers, the Scum Y is a very nice ship with all those nasty astromechs.

P1000234.jpg

"High performance" fighters. Unfortunately they suck, as both the Starviper and the Scyk are nice models and fun to paint. Please note the Stealth Device on the Scyk. I sometimes swap the model when I lose the SD.

HWKs. The red one has a magnetized turret, so it can be removed. And don´t ask how it will land!

P1000235.jpg

Firesprays. The purple one was painted before the release of S&V so the palette is close to my Imperials.

Lots of nicely airbrushed ships. Me likey. However that red HWK has an 'interesting' configuration...

They are pretty unique. I do like a lot of aspects of them. I guess I would've expected more stripes or little twilex girls on the side or something.

That honeycomb effect on the Firesprays is awesome. Good work!

Holy smokes, well done!

I like the fly eye effect on the cockpit of that one Firespray

Dude - you do cars?

I gotta sweet ride that needs some love.

What did you use to do the cool scaled effect?

What did you use to do the cool scaled effect?

It´s fairly easy, basicly just a net on the model. The tricky part is to finding a proper net (I was lucky to get one from a local hobby store, they had bought butterfly nets for the bamboo rods and had some surplus nets) and having it tightly attached on the model. The rest is just simple airbrushing, the cockpit on the bluish FS was really easy to do.

You can find plenty of tutorials, I used mainly this. Please note that you´ll need quite small holes for 1/275 scale so laundry bag type of net probably won´t do. Would be interesting to try on a gun though.

I think I´ll try a snakeskin job on one of the YV-666s, suits Trandoshians, eh?

Love them! Great work! Now will you do mine?

Some reinforcements, another lizard coming up later:

And the engines:

wow, very nice :)

may I ask how you created the "snakeskin effect" on the lizzard?

That Niinivaara is a very impressive and imaginative re-paint! :D

Watched couple of those . The tricky part is to find a suitable mesh/web (mine is a butterfly net) and to get it fixed neatly and as close as possible on the ship.

Some lovely reprints. They'll certainly stand out on the table!

More reinforcements, first K-Fighters:

Then the feared U-Boats:

Nice work, I finally see why to buy a 2nd Star Viper :-p

Outstanding work. You could afford to buy more ships by charging for paint jobs.

Many of these look like 1980's GI Joe and Cobra vehicles...

I mean that as a good thing.

Great Work. You are a skilled painter! :D

Missed this.

Great re-paints.

But I really like your Firesoray repaints.

They look fantastic.

Well done.

All the best.

Couple of new ships coming. First some of the older jobs, I think I put the pics in the Gadge's topic but now it's better to have them here.

A G-1A:

Then a commission YV (+ a matching Pup) for my friend:

Then newer things. The FFG sells some wonderful conversion parts when you buy TLTs and Extra Munitions, I just had to do some custom ships:

A Hull Upgrade and Extra Munitons Y-Wing:

Then a Y-Wing Trainer with a seat for the flight instructor:

And finally the compulsory (de-)cloaking HWK (with a special turret):

That Y-Wing trainer is a brilliant idea!! ;)

That Y-Wing trainer is a brilliant idea!! ;)

And totally unintentional as the K cockpit and Y frame were just the last parts I had left. But it ended up ok, with turret and everything ;)
