New Dark Heresy Designer Diary: Dark Heresy 2009 Adventure Contest

By FFG Ross Watson, in Dark Heresy

Just a question: when it says "entries must have been delivered by November 30th" does that mean that they can be sent in until midnight between November 30th and December 1st or must all entries have been sent in BEFORE November 30th?

The reason for asking is that I knew from the start that my delivered entriy would be cutting close to the final day, and I've experienced some things getting in the way for my writing, so I'd like to know how many hours I have left.

Hopefully I will get a swift enough reply.

Thanks.

The absolute drop-dead last gasp for turning in your work is 5 PM CST on November 30th.

Thanks.

Though as of now, it seems I have to fold in this year's competition for many different reasons. Writers cramp being one of them and also being too buzzed over Rogue Trader to be in that special Dark Heresy mood needed, and the fact that I learned that the place I intended to use for my scenario was going to be described in the 2nd or 3rd part of the Haarlock Campaign (Sinophia). Also some IRL issues came up during it all that cut away some precious time for me.

I just felt that if I were to turn in a contribution I wanted to make sure that I didn't step on the toes of any established or upcoming fluff about Sinophia, so much of my time had to be spent scouring the Dark Heresy books for snippets of information about Sinophia before I actually started writing something, just to make sure I integrated the setting of my adventure properly into the established fluff.

Although by now I think I can safely say that I have gathered the most comperhensive "scrapbook" with info regarding Sinophia, I can't finish the rest of the scenario in just under four hours. Quite a shame, since I had my sights line up to design my adventure in a pretty unorthodox and open-ended way that might have impressed the judges a little.

I have plans to upload it somewhere else though if I can complete it later on, it might not win me any competitions, but a least I'll be able to show off what I had cooking to anyone interested.

Good luck to the rest of the participants though, and may the best man (or woman, I do remember that aethel won the last competition gui%C3%B1o.gif) win. happy.gif

Hope there will be a similar contest sometime in 2010.

:( That's a huge shame.

Please, please find a way to finish it and post it - it sounds like you've done loads of work and it deserves to be seen by a wider audience. I'm particularly interested in the unorthodox structure.

Slightly (alright, alright, completely) off topic: Do we know any officially named cities on Sinophia that aren't Sinophia magna?

Harrow Ridge is a remote city on Sinophia that saw a bunh of gruesome murders seemingly conneced to the Murder Room.

Perfect. Thanks. :)

Just wanted to say thanks for the receipt message and for taking the time to set up this contest. Anyone who teaches, etc. knows that the FFG will be spending a lot of hours to read our 10,000 words. Funny, but I remember a long time ago when a 10,000 word writing assignment would have brought groans and anxiety... now I had to cut nearly 5,000 words to get it down that far.

Good luck to all entries.

Right you are Cynr, 10k words can feel terse. Part of that is the game, in a game like DH, you have a big social dynamic to deal with, it's not just a dungeon crawl.

I've thrice cursed my pontentia coil in my cogitator for giving out on me in my time of need and now unfortunately i to had to fold in the towel though its for the best as i tried to write information on a cemetery world and FFG hasnt done any of that and call me a heretic if i ever try to step on FFG's toes seeing as i look out for you guys in the forums as much as i can. oh well theres next year and i got the book regardless so im quite pleased.

Am I right in saying we should hear the results tomorrow?

Please excuse the somewhat late reply.

Yes I have done some work on my contribution but alas I couldn't get it done in time. But I'll be sure to keep all my notes and I'll finish it once I've had the chance to read up on what FFG has to write concerning Sinophia first (it has been hinted that we might see a description of that desolate world in the upcoming scenario for the Haarlock campaign). Since im not really bound by a timelimit anymore, I'd really like to try and integrate my scenario as well as possible with the eventual fluff that extrapolates on Sinophia rather than risking to step on the toes of canon.

I use the "OpenOffice" suite.

This has a word processor and a draw program that is simple enough but is great for maps and diagrams.

Recommended.

I shall say, unfortunatly I was unable to get my entry done in time but then again. Gives me a whole year to work on ideas and get them started for whatever the contest shall be next year. Wonderful entries and a glorious contest. Thanks for hosting it FFG!

Hey all - First of all, congratulations to the winners! Sorry that a bit late, but still sincere!

Also a question - since I've run out of scenarios, is it possible for the participants of the contest to post their adventures somewhere (dark reign perhaps)? Or would it be against some rules etc?
