Epic Space Background Music

By North Star, in Star Wars: Armada

Anyone have any suggestions for some armada background music? I'm thinking epic classical music of some sort? Does anyone already have some favourites? When I used to play Sins of a Solar Empire on PC, I used to overlay Boards of Canada- that was pretty floaty!

You say this like Star Wars doesn't have its own epic space music...

Interdictor from the TIE Fighter short film

Star Wars music aside....

This question always makes me think back to my years playing Eve Online. Some of the fan videos had amazing choices of music.

The one that most sticks in my mind had "Ghost Love Score" by Nightwish, and it was absolutely perfect.

Good ole Eve online miss that game sometimes :)

I surf Youtube and look up Epic Gaming Music. Most of it runs about 2 hours long so it covers a game most of the time and I can run it from my phone or my tablet if I take it with me.

Epic music companies like Immediate Music and Two Steps from Hell put out some great heroic/epic music that is perfect for gaming.

i sometimes do, and even get close to playing again. And then i remember how slow it often was in between the moments of utter, unbeatable brilliance, and i ignore the urge.

That game is both amazing and utterly unlike any other game, while at the same time often being incredibly boring and slow.

**** you Eve!

Haha I lost interest when I was half sleep listened to a BOB FC and jumped my Dreadnought in a Iron Fleet and got shredded. Seeing that ship pop just took something out of me. I have the isk to buy 2 Dreads but I just have no interest I guess. I've come back for the free games but I just run lvl 4 missions in my Rattlesnake (love that ship)

Yeah....eventually you just realise enough is enough. I could afford anything short of a TItan, but i just had/have no interest any more.

I play the Aliens soundtrack while playing Space Hulk.

Could work for Armada? But Star Wars soundtrack definitely a better shot.

Or for something completely different the War or the Worlds musical? Camp, but fun.

John Williams, James Horner, Jerry Goldsmith, Hans Zimmer are all great modern composers that have touched Sci Fi/ Fiction soundtracks. I'd start with them if you can't find what you are looking for.

Besides the usual choice of John Williams' Epic soundtracks, I enjoy:

Holst "the Planets" (title says it all.....awesome....Mars, the bringer of War!!)

Mussorgskys' "Pictures at an Exhibition" (grand, huge, thunderous)

Igor Stravinskys' "Rite of spring" (heavy , tense, brooding)

or any thing Hanz Zimmer...my favorite soundtrack composer.(the Blackhawk down soundtrack is primo for aggressive game play style)hehe :D

Cheers..enjoy !!

heres afew more jems I love to hear while Gaming,

Rossini's la Gazza Ladra (the Thieving Magpie....my personal theme song) light hearted, powerful, listen to very loud!!!

also his William tell overture is very good.( hey Ho Silver!!)

if you like opera...Mozarts' "Don Giovanni"....very dark, creepy, tragic...did I mention dark?

Tchaikovsky's "1812 overture"...Beautiful beginning.....massive ending...Cannon fire and stuff!!!

and last but not least......Wagner's "the Ring Cycle"....full of Norse Gods, monsters, dwarves, very long epic.......I mean realllllly long!!!

or his very famous "Ride of the Valkyries".....!!!

Enjoy!! :)

The Planets, Op. 32 by Gustav Holst is not just an amazing orchestral suite, but it serves as the Inspiration for John Williams when he was composing Star Wars. Just listen to Mars, The Bringer of War and tell me you aren't immediately taken to the Battle of Yavin (as well as some other great Star Wars moments). This is something I often listen to when playing games. I highly recommend it.

There is only one authorized piece of music for all Operations by decree of the Emperor.. that would be the glorious "Imperial March"

Imperial March on repeat...

I stopped here to make sure your mix was mentioned Mel, it's my default go-to.
