So the wording of the card is here

"After attacking a squadron, you may deal 1 damage to a friendly squadron engaged with the defender. If you do, the defender suffers 1 damage."

It's a weapons upgrade (same as flight controllers) so does that mean you would only be able to use it with squadrons activated by that ship? Or is it just anytime fleet wide?

It happens off of anti squad fire.

So when your Ship shoots at a squadron it could then choose to do 1 auto damage to that ship along with a friendly squadron engaged with that squadron

For example a tie bomber and an enemy a-wing are engaged. Your Vsd equipped with ruthless strategist activates and shoots at the a-wing doing 1 damge, it can then inflict 1 damage on the bomber in order to deal a 2nd damage

How does it work when your friendly TIE Bomber is engaged with multiple A-wings. Your VSD equipped with ruthless strategist can attack all A-wings if they are in the same arc. I roll for damage en deal 1 damage to all A-wings. Can I now inflict 1 damage on the TIE Bomber to deal 1 damage to all A-wings? Or do I need to inflict 1 damage on the TIE Bomber for each A-wing I want to damage? Or can I only deal 1 damage to one 1 A-wing?

You attack each fighter in your arc separately. So you roll against the first A-Wing, deal 1 damage, and then deal 1 damage to your bomber to deal a 2nd damage.

Then, you roll against the next A-Wing, and may repeat the process, dealing 1 damage to an engaged ship to damage the A-wing further.

So, Ruthless Strategists can be triggered as many times as you roll against enemy squadrons, but it will always deal an equal amount of damage to your squadrons as it does to theirs.

I would say as you repeat steps 2-6 against each squadron elligible to shoot at and the phrasing on ruthless strategists is "after attacking a squadron..", you could use it after each single attack on a squadron, and have to take 1 damage on a friendly squadron each time.

Or do I need to inflict 1 damage on the TIE Bomber for each A-wing I want to damage? This.
